this is priceless. last night my climate control melted. HOW?? kinda hoping someone could tell me. i went out to start my car and put the heat on so this way when i get in it it would be warm. make sense right? so when i get in the car i go to turn the heat off and i felt no locking on the setting and the heat stayed on. after about 30 sec of being on the heat went off. i pulled out the center fascia and a bronze metal piece fell on my hand. HOT AS HELL!!! i noticed the plastic was bent out and all the pieces fell out. here are some of the pictures

Theres a DIY for this...for a quick fix...common problem

I was attempting to find it...Paul McCain made the DIY for it...

I went through 4 or 5 of those switches before I found the problem...the spade connectors are loose, causing arcing and excessive heat. Replace the switch and take a little screwdriver or pair of pliers and make sure all the clips in the harness side are bent almost closed. You want a good tight connection on the terminals in the switch. Ever since I did that I havn't had any problems. Good luck!

Ive had the dealership replace four of them since I have owned the car. You think they would just have some sort of recall on the whole thing....

LOL...the dealership tried to blame this on my aftermarket stereo. I finally got fed up after switching a few of them out..I brought it in and took the center panel apart infront of the service manager and handed him the switch which was still hot to the touch...They ended up replacing the entire HVAC control unit which included the switch. Sure enough, about 2 months later the switch was toast again. After much troubleshooting I found the loose connections in the connector. After I tightened them up I havn't had a problem with that switch for several years (And I run my blower on 4 all the time).

just fixed mine, after getting a new switch the same thing happened and i read about the pins on the connector arcing if they arent alligned right (one of my wires was corroded and burt as well) so i spent 20$ at autozone and fixed i myself. i didnt want to pay 100$ for a new harness, plus i wasnt sure if the connector would be included in the harness.
Equitment-
(Optional) Soldering equitment
(Optional) Heatshrink
14ga Wire
6 Female connectors (with plastic covering the tips, if needed heat them with a lighter so the plastic shrinks a little so you can fit each piece into the switch)
Fixed or new Blower Control Switch
wire splitter/ crimper

1.Create extension pieces for stock wiring. (cut wires ~ 4" long with split ends --- crimp one end into the female connector --- heatshrink over the female connector to prevent any of the wires from touching --- heat the plastic over the connector piece if needed to make sure the all plugs fit)
Image

2. in the car cut each wire going to the original connector leaving about an inch of wire left on the connector. (may have to cut each one by one because they are tough and close together)
Image

3. Do this next step for all 6 wires.. place your heatshrink over the wire --- attach the wires and solder them together --- slide the heatshrink over the piece that is solderes and heat it to prevent the wires from shorting.

4.pay attention to the color of the wires on the original connector.. connect each wire to the blower switch corresponding to what pin each wire went to.. it will be snug but the plastic should prevent any arcing or connectors from touching.. like i said if they need to be shrunk to fit use a lighter to heat the ends and pinch the plastic.
