Greetings Everyone!
Just joined a few days ago. Glad to be a part of the tribe =)
I'm an owner to a 4-cylinder 2005 Tiburon. I bought the beast used, and up until recently I was positive that it was a genuine Tuscani, but now that I kind of know the difference, I figured out that whoever owned it before just switched the badges on the hood and trunk =/

The problem is - whoever owned the car before me must have been so desperate to pass it off as a Tuscani that he tried replacing anything that says Hyundai on it. And yes, he got to the steering wheel too =D. To most people it would be common sense to order a $3 synth-rubber Tuscani logo on E-bay and simply slap it on top of the airbag cover, but not this dude. It seems as if he tried to physically remove the H via Acid or Ice pick or something.

Long story short my steering wheel is a mess. It repells dates better than its airbag repells face, it makes zero sense with the rest of the badges, and generally looks as if the logo has been showered with acid.

I have a new sticker to go on the steering wheel but I can't apply it because of the wheel's condition. Can anyone give me an advice as to how I could fix this?

Thanks in advance!

i have the same problem when i was cutting out the h in my wheel i screwed up as far as i know they wont give a new cover for the wheel. they say you have to replace the whole air bag assembly. i think the best is to go to a junkyard and try and snag one from there and go to the diy and replace the airbag system.
After all the mods and upgrades i did to the car the steering wheel is a black eye.
I feel your pain.

sounds like a good reason to buy a momo steering wheel...
See if you can find one of a tib from the junkyard although I wouldn't mess with the airbag...
No, Don't do that. People on this site will flame you..

DONT GET RID OF THE STOCK AIR BAG ** cry cry cry cry**

Thats how it will go.

Yo! thanks for the responses everyone!

DONATI03GT, I actually tried dremeling it off, spent one hot afternoon with an AC/DC adapter, and gave up.

NOTE: For all that haven't tried destroying the laminated steering logos on cars, they are INCREDIBLY HARD! =D. it basically would have taken too long to smooth the remains of the H out. And since It was more or less a push-and-grind type of deal, the horn kept going off and bothering the dogs in the neighborhood. I gave up about an hour into this. lol

As far as upholstery on the airbag cover goes, two questions: how exactly does it work, is it like a bumper-guard type deal? and why would I get flamed for doing it?

Check it out, I want to sell my airbag, not sure what a fair price is but its got the "H" on it and nothing wrong with it. I changed my steering wheel out for a sparco removable. I needed some of the inner parts to keep the cruise and the blinkers working properly but the shop should still have the actual wheel, let me know what you are thinking and we can work something out. No charge for the wheel, except for shipping it to California. I can get it and post pics tomorrow if you want..

not sure if you are aware.. but you can disable the horn :3_winkthu

dremeling out the emblem is incredibly hard, wish i used my cutters to do it, every time my dremell slipped i put a gouge in the steering wheel. Hence why i need to replace the wheel cover. Arrggg
and i cant just get a new front of it, i need to replace the whole air bag assemblly and need to know if the 05 06 will fit in the 07 ? any idea?

Hey everyone!
Sorry I disappeared for a while.

Hammerstone, that sounds like it could work. But let me see if I got this right: do you have the entire steering wheel or just the front cover? Either way it sounds workable. The only difference is in the installation procedure.

If it IS in fact the entire original steering wheel, do you know if it's hard at all to install?

and yeah, please post some pics, I'd love to take a look at it.

P.S. Btw, how did you manage to get cruise control on what seems on a stick-shift car? I didn't think that was possible. lol

My car is an 04 6 speed GT, the cruise control came with the car. It had to be moved off the steering wheel to keep it though. It was a hassle but I figured why not use it.
The shop my car is at had to use parts from the stock wheel to get my sparco one to work like original. So now when I turn my blinker on, the wheel spins and turns it off like normal. As far as installing my wheel, I am not thinking you can use it for that since we cut the back metal off.

awesome. looks like you took the whole thing apart. Nicely done. I personally couldn't get past the side screws. I tried to get them lose but it almost cost me an alen-wrench. lol. It requires a star-shaped one.

I think you've mentioned earlier that you wouldn't mind sending the front cover. Let me know if you're still up for it. The shipping charges are on me:3_winkthu

Just so you know and to be fair, Jfirios asked for it first in another thread i believe but i have not heard anything from him..sent him like 2 recent pm's. I am also confused about what front cover you want..just the part where the T is and not the entire airbag, its late i am tired, maybe that is why i am confused on what parts you are looking for off it..

Well, it's okay, actually, don't hesitate to give the entire thing to Jfirios - as of this morning he is the only contender for it - I just got into a bad car wreck. =/ I'm afraid taking off the steering wheel cover will no longer be the issue - the airbag took care of all that. It really hurts to think about it but there are substantial chances that it's a total loss. {:^[
Wasn't my fault at all but I guess that doesn't really matter. Once the damage is done, it's Done.

I appreciate the offer though, if this hasn't happened I'm sure we would have figured something out.

Another Tib K.I.A. Sorry to hear it, you didnt have to destroy the entire car to get a new steering wheel/airbag. I hope you are ok though! What happened if you dont mind me asking. You said it wasnt your fault and that is a good thing.
