ok the exhaust is making some nasty egg/fart smell. it doesnt sound different. it just starts to smell when i hit the gas pretty hard....actually if i get to 50 or 60. its getting worse. i can small it in the car now lol. it started once i got my headers in and i thought it was just crap in the headers slowly leaving but now its been a while and its getting bad. i also thought it was my brake pads cause i hit the brakes a lot but its comming from the exhaust.

i have a smell that stinks when i come to a stop light or any stop really. If i have my windows down i get that nasty smell start creeping up. My exhaust is also starting to get louder..maybe an exhaust leak? I dont know how to tell really.

ye thats exactly what it smells like. but it never happend until i got my new headers (hotshots), which where the catalytic converter theory comes in. you sure its not busted?

If the cat was bad normally you would have a decrease in performance as well as the smell. I worked a t a Dodge dealer and a truck came in with a bad cat it wouldn't go over about 55 and then it would start hesitating real bad and not go any faster. That was a bad case that I encountered, but most of the time I've seen slight hesitation and obnoxious egg smell.

i would have your cat checked. i've had a cat go bad on every car ive owned and it allways smelled like rotten eggs. i've never felt a difference in the way my car drives only the smell. my tibs stock cat went bad after i installed my NGM headers, so i got a new high flow one and it's working like a champ.

what kinda cat do u suggest? isnt it the bigger the more its gunna decrease performance and sound? whats the diff between a hi-flow cat and the hotshot one i have?

Have you tried to retighten the headers down. Sounds more like a exhaust leak. Normally a busted cat you can here as well. My Dodge ram when the cat busted sounded like tins cans underneath was pretty imbarassing at times.

is there a way to tell if your having an exhaust problem? im getting the smell and slight hesitation..but i sure dont want go back under that car..

what would fixing air leaks do about the smell. the air would just be coming outta differnt holes other than the exhaust pipes right? maybe if the holes is before the cat but my smell is coming straight from the exhaust pipes not the front end.

It is a bad cat, and TT the reason the truck would not go over 55 is because the ECU threw it into "LIMP" mode. When it goes into that mode the performance of vehicle is severely limited, and it retards the timing DRASTICALLY, because it thinks something is wrong and is trying to protect the motor.

Do you have a check engine light? If your cats bad, your CEL should have come on because thats exactly what its there for. Either way it sounds like a bad cat, you should get it replaced. If it was an exhaust leak it would be LOUD and ANNOYING and it would sound different than it normally does.
