Hey guys, first post.

I've been looking around at the local used Tibs, and came across a 2003 GT V6 6spd with 54,000 miles. I really want a stick, but then i found a 2005 with only 39,400 but it's auto.

The 2003 is 8500, and the 2005 is 10,990. Both are in my price range, but am hesitant about the 2005, I'm afraid i'll be disappointed with the 4 speed auto...

Anyone else go through the same thing? I can't make up my mind! AHHH

Thanks for any input!

manual is winz.

although most of the fastest Tibs here are auto.

its really a personal pick.

annnyways, welcome to the site.
Purely coincidental...
I like auto personally, its easier to use on long drives, the only time you would really need stick is when you want to race someone or you just feel like being sporty.
Wait...what? How are they easier to use on long drives?? You either wait till it's in 4th, or you manually shift up till you're in 5th/6th..either way you're just using one foot for the remaining time lol.
i wish mine was a manual but there are times i'm glad i have an auto.. like rush hour traffic. eghh..

go for the newer one. manuals are more fun to drive but theres nothing wrong with an auto.
says...the female :3_hypocri

Lol ok, just kidding about that last one...

Is this your first manual opportunity? If so, I'd suggest getting a manual because you can learn on the stock clutch and know that no matter how good or bad a driver you are, you are still going to have to replace that bish.

Also, nothing compares to slamming gears, double clutching, rev-matching, especially..ESPECIALLY on back roads. Get a GOOD exhaust on there, engine break -- you'll enjoy it so much better.

or...

You can get the chickmatic, and use the -/+ to shift gears...which takes all the fun out of it.

Hmmmm...... well if you get the 2005 you would the better looking one because alot of people here who have 2003-04 don't really like the way the way it looks in the front so they get the F/L headlights and bumper because its better looking, so you would have that covered, but you could use change that if you get the 2003. Since the 2003 is a stick, you would probably would have more fun in that. I have a 2006 auto and I like it.

I also found a 2004 GT V6 6spd for 9,990, but it has 71,000 miles. The scratches and dents that cover it don't show up until you're at the lot looking at it :3_saai:

Would I have to worry about the clutch since it has so many miles on it?

I'm starting to look more towards the 2005 (auto) because of the front end. This will be a commuter to college, so I won't be doing any mods that will drain my wallet.

Hey man, you can pick up my car...lol It's a 2004 SE 6spd already modded...If you think you might be interested shoot me an offer, it may get traded in here pretty quick.

Personally I would go for a manual just because they are fun to drive. I get more joy driving a manual then I do an auto. If you don't plan on modding real big then you shouldn't have to worry about which one holds the power better.

yeah I drove a 6 spd from arizona to new york and it went by pretty quick (not saying i was driving THAT fast lol). but if i were you id go with the newer auto. since you are in college with restricted funds, it would last longer and you wouldnt have to worry about something going wrong so quickly. more reliable as well.

I like my auto, but sometimes miss shifting. If im in traffic I appreciate the auto ! If im out driving in the country, I miss the Stick. Either way you will always miss the one you didnt get. So go for the body style you like the best/best deal.

after driving auto for 5 years of my life i got bored and grabbed an 03 gtv6 6-spd. I couldn't have been happier. Although, i researched a bit and made sure that the stock clutch was replaced before i bought it. All in all i'm pretty thrilled with it.

Manual, you'll feel, and be, cooler. :)

03's had clutch problems.... I'd go with the 05, as it has a better front end and lower miles! Plus once if you spend the money fixing the 03's clutch, and getting the new FL bumper, and the FL headlights it will probably end up costing you more than the 05.

My opinion, 05 FTW!

The heck with used. If you can afford those prices put that much down and get a new one. I've always been leary about getting a used vehicle because you never know how the previous owner treated the car and remember your talking about a Tib. If you do buy used be sure to take it to a garage that you know well and have them check it over good ie compression check / clutch / seals / brakes / etc.

I had never driven a manual before I got my Tiburon, but I am definitely happy with my decision to go manual. It's all a personal preference though. Think about the traffic in your area too. The traffic here sucks at times, but nothing like where I used to live. (Washington DC) If I still lived up there i'd seriously consider an automatic.

tiburons tend to suffer from premature clutch wear, but i've heard few complaints in regards to the 6-speed. i would simply test drive the car and if the clutch has never been replaced set some money aside just in case. 15k miles doesn't make a huge difference and the 6 speed is probably significantly cheaper.

Hey Guys, the '05 automatic was sold this afternoon, so I couldn't even go to look at it. The 6 speed '04 had a deposit on when I called them, which happened sometime between last Sunday and today.

Although, I just came home in a Sterling 2003 GT V6 automatic with 42,000 miles for just under $10K. This thing is perfect, not one scratch, not one dent, the power moon roof, and incredibly clean inside, looks brand new. The only gripe is that it has the 16" wheels instead of the nicer looking 17's, but it drives perfect. There is no vibration in braking (an occurrence in another car i drive) and it is solid as a rock.

the vibration when braking hard in the tiburon seems to come and go. it feels like warped rotors, but i'm really not sure. i know it has happened in my car several times, but i haven't noticed anything recently. the moon roofs tend to get all jittery and stick after mild use. i know i didnt use mine very much and it has a long delay or kind of jerks open. i could get it fixed under warranty i'm sure, but i haven't bothered because i don't like the look of the car with it open!

the 16" wheels are actually a good thing. get yourself a nice set of aftermarket wheels and tires and keep the 16s for some cheap winter tires. anything larger than a 16 gets much more expensive.

I'm driving an '04 GT manual. This is my first manual car that I've ever owned/driven and I absolutely love it. Kinda scary learning to drive stick from a dead stop facing uphill with a bus behind you, but I wouldn't have traded in those little adventures for an auto.

Go stick FTW! Plus, chicks dig it. :p
when i was a kid i figured this out and not even the combined driving experience of both my parents thought of it first.

on a moderate to steep hill depress clutch and brake like normal to come to a stop
yank hand brake
release brake pedal and position right foot in front of gas pedal
when ready to drive begin to put the car in gear like normal and smoothly let off the ebrake

when done with some coordination you won't roll back an inch on even the steepest hills.
