Just had a quick question. I just finished installing my kit and of course my car is dirty as hell now. Anyways the paint is only 2 days old and I was just wondering if my car soap will hurt the new clear coat. I know I shouldnt wax the car for at least 30 days or longer. But just wondering if the car soap would be ok on the new clear coat or not. Thanks

Don't use household cleaners, they carry the wrong type of detergents. Use a detergent meant for cars, look for 'car washing soap' and don't wax for 6 weeks, not 30 days.

Also stay free and clear of drive through car washes until your paint cures, about 2 months. I avoid it period, but I'm not you.

Good luck.

I had a new rear bumper painted and installed a couple months ago and when I got the car backed I washed it with meguiars car wash soap. I dont know what its called, but its in a purple bottle and like 3 or 4 bucks at Walmart. Just mix with water, get a sponge or mitt and you're all set

Meguiars is a fine product, definately something I recomend.

Yeah thats the exact stuffI ahve been using for years ... good soap. Who the hell would use dish detergent? That will strip the clear off your car. Thanks for the responses.

A little off topic, but worth asking… Myth or Truth, cold water from a garden hose helps the new paint curing process? Thank You! Just a tad curious.

i doubt it seeing as how bodyshops cure paint using warm light.....

Noooooo!!! Don't use ANYTHING other than water to wash your car for the first month after a new paint job!!! Any chemicals will interact with the clearcoat. Let the clear have time to "set" before using soap or wax!!!

Call the body shop that painted your kit, ask them what they recommend, and follow their directions to a T. different paints have different resistance to different chemicals, and different methods of painting will require different times to allow the paint to cure.

Cal and ask before you screw the bumper up!

I just got my Tib back from being repainted compliments of hyundai and the body shop told me no washing or waxing for about 3months and if it drove me nuts to just use water to rinse it off.

Yah, my painter told me no soap and chemicals for 1 month, and no waxing for 3 months
