Red Brake Calipers?

I have seen the DIY things to paint the calipers and well, personally i would rather just buy some red ones, for example the ones on the SE models, i have the GT, and so i like the red ones because they look better from the factory and they have the Hyundai painted on them in white.

MY QUESTION IS. does anyone know where i can buy the red break calipers wth hyundai on the that are for the front and in the back? ive seen them on SFR's site but there only the front ones, or do i just have to go to the dealer and pay top dollar =(?

^ just a quick question to see if anyone might know?

Re: Red Break Calipers?

I don't believe hyundai sells (or even made) powdercoated rear calipers, I think it was only the front ones. But yea, SFR or you could even try TTG enterprises (another vendor here) because they might have some used ones off a wrecked tib.

Re: Red Break Calipers?

really?

you would rather spend hundreds on new calipers (plus installation) when a $5 can of paint and a $2 sticker will accomplish the exact same thing?
really??

also, there are no rear factory red brakes. only the fronts came painted.

Re: Red Break Calipers?

The hyundai is not painted on the calipers from the factory. It is just a sticker, that oddly enough you can buy. Just like the red high-temp paint hyundai uses. Yeah overall id say its pretty easy to paint your BRAKE calipers if you follow the DIY and tape stuff off. Or the better way to do it is a BBK from stoptech http://www.stoptech.com/products/BBK/options.shtml

Re: Red Break Calipers?

The SE only has red brakes in the front, not the rear. The red ones are also made of aluminum, so they are lighter and reduce the unsprung mass of your car.

Re: Red Break Calipers?

i painted mine this summer, really easy to do, i bought a package that had high temp paint, caliper clearner, and a mixing stick and brush and everything (it wasnt a spray so i didnt have to mask anything) and the whole thing cost me 25 bucks and you can say "yep i painted those myself"

Re: Red Break Calipers?

and brake calipers have nothing to do with unsprung weight since they are static. They don't move and do not use energy from the engine to be moved. Getting lighter calipers would be like taking a dump before getting in your car as far as weight reduction is concerned.

Lighter rotors, rims, flywheel, pulleys, etc... things that spin... are what you were referring to with unsprung weight.

Re: Red Break Calipers?

rofl 430$ for some single caliper pistons. Seriously just paint your own or if you are really set on randomly buying the exact same calipers you have but prepainted let me know Ill go a junkyard get some paint them put stickers on and sell them to you for 390$. Thats a good deal right?
Damn you... I was gonna let this thread run out a little and make the same offer.... only in a more sneaky way...

I was going to offer to sell him my stock red painted w/ Hyundai lettering... both front and back.... lol
My tib was special order... really.... it came that way... I swear..... :3_pimatyo

This thread is the biggest collection of misinformation I have ever seen. I'll keep my corrections to the SE calipers, since I have an 07 SE, and let others address the other mistakes. The front calipers are red and the rear are black. The Hyundai lettering on the front calipers is not a sticker, it is raised lettering molded into the calipers. I don't know about older SEs, but 07-08 SEs have 12 inch rotors.

On my previous 04 GT I painted all four calipers red and put metallic Tiburon decals on them, and they looked great, Total cost, about $50.

just chiming in the letters are raised in the caliper like dctibby said. i actually felt one of the SE calipers to make sure at the dealer and yeah it's imbedded into the caliper.

I painted mine to look just like SE's. Total cost was under $25. IMO, spending hundreds on new calipers is really unnecessary
