I'm curious as to which people prefer Short Ram or CAI for the Tiburon.
From what I've heard, they're basically the same, just a slight difference in operation, but for output the do the same.
Is that correct?

Thanks for any and all help.

CAI is gonna make your car perform better b/c it pulls in cold air. The short ram is not gonna be too much different than your stock setup b/c it's still gonna pull in hot air from your engine. It's all about the location of the filter. I have CAI and I absolutly love it.

There is a small difference between SRI and CAI about .2 hp difference.
I would look at your location meaning does it rain alot and snow? if so then most people prefer SRI because they don't run the risk of hydrolocking like you do with CAI. If thats not the case then its just personal preference.
Good luck

i went with an INJEN SRI cuz i had an AEM CAI and almost hydrolocked my motor. people say it doesnt happen but it does. very rarely (we had a massive icestorm one yr and my filter got covered in ice and some water managed to get into the engine). luckily it wasnt enough to do any serious damaghe, but i did have to get it towed to a shop to get it to run clean again.

SRI on a hot day is worse than stock...lousey for performance...sucking in all that hot air under the hood.

CAI is great, just don't take her surfing. Had CAI on several cars, running it on my 03GT...nice sound, better perf that CAI..pulls cold air from the front of the car next to the fog lights

There is so much bad info and half truths in this thread I don't know where to start.

Bottom line: CAI will net slightly bigger gains, but is more difficult to install than an SRI and carries a much greater chance of hydrolock due to the filter being in the fender and low to the ground.

If you decide on SRI, general consensus says that Injen is best (I had it at one point and loved it). STAY AWAY from the AEM SRI...it's a filter and a bracket only!

If you want a CAI, you can go name brand or ebay, but just make sure you pick up a high quality filter for the ebay one.

You have to be either stupid or trying verybhard to hydrolock using CAI...IM not so HO
There is a plastic panel underneath protecting the filter, it never gets wet even in very heavy rains, you will have to drive through a very deep puddle (LAKE) to get water there.

I have had the AEM CAI on my car for two years now...i live in Massachussetts, we have sh!tty weather, almost constantly it seems, and I have had ZERO issues with hydrolock. I have even driven into a puddle that was pretty damn deep, no issues; i am lucky for that, i know, but it also shows that if you are careful enough with your driving, then you can avoid the misery of HL. can it happen? yes! should it be something to consider before buying a CAI? yes! But should it instantly scare you away from even considering a CAI? come on, grow a pair. i assure you that when you install a CAI and first start it up, those freshly-grown orbs will drop- no worries!

ok- I've searched through so many of these forums... i need to ask

ok, I was trying to figure out if I should get the AEM CAI or the Injen short ram. I figured that since I live in indiana (by lake mich.) it rains alot-my street floods up to my doorstep maybe 5-6 times a year.. so in this case, i figure (did my research) that I should get the injen short ram..

but a few people have mentioned that unless you're not driving 50 mph through a puddle or lake then if you have the CAI it will be fine? and also just a slight higher increase in hp than the short ram.

I'm trying to get as much hp as I can without getting hydrolock. I'm not sure if this rain situtaion is THAT terrible?

my main question I wanted to know is, my friend told me that the AEM CAI has a nicer sound than the injen SRI. Does anyone have sound clips of the two to where I can compare them? probably not such a big difference right?

...for someone to claim one intake sounds better than another is pretty rediculous.

anyway, get the injen sri. it's the best of both worlds. it was only a 3hp different they claimed back in the day from a full CAI....something you wouldn't even be able to tell on the butt dyno.

also, if you have a supercharger in mind, the CAI is obsolete. No point in pulling in cold air since the air just heats up when the supercharger compresses it. Go for SRI if you want a supercharger, shorter pipe means less distance the air travels. The Injen SRI isnt so bad with heatsoak compared to others also, since it sits next to the battery, right behind the front bumper.
false. if you're bringing in warm air, you're compressing warm air. if you're bringing in 10 degree cooler air, then you're compressing 10 degree cooler air. if your logic was right, then intercooling wouldn't do anything. remember, there's more oxygen in colder air....

SRI , CAI all personal choice, brand personal choice

nothing your going to see a big gain from anyways

but i have a SRI INJEN my buddy has an AEM CAI

Get some headers... lol
sri is good if you're going to just slap a filter on the end of your stock elbow. not worth buying a sri (like AEM's) b/c it's usually the same thing. Injen's is worth it b/c it's completely different.

but otherwise you're right, you wouldn't be able to feel the difference between the two.
