supercharger VS. turbo

i want to know which has more bang for the buck and is easiest to install....

ive been looking at a few superchargers and they seem pretty simple to install... and it can use all of the performance upgrades i have now (headers, catback etc....)

on the other hand turbo sounds sweet when it spools up:3_winkthu but looks like a PITA to install and do the upkeep on it to make it run in top shape....

anyone have any comments on which is better:3_confuse ??

I wouldn't say either is better, they are just different. I have had a S/C kit on my 05 Beta II Tib for about 3 years and 50,000 miles and for me it's best. I like the low end torque you get from the S/C. I get 5 lbs of boost at low RPM and max of 10 lbs. You can get more top end HP from a good turbo setup but that's not how I drive my Tib, it's a daily driver.

for you a supercharger is better, easier to install, easier to maintain, easier to troubleshoot. a turbo is for people with a lot of experience unless you feel like spending $$$ at a shop.

here is a thread on this. its for an I4 but its the same concept
http://www.newtiburon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141454&highlight=super+turbo

from the thread
Supercharger
+instant boost
+easy install (compared to a turbo setup)
+can use normal header and intact tract (if roots blower)
-takes power from the crank to turn charger
-usually low amount of boost pressure

Turbocharger
+recycles lost power through exhaust fumes (no power taken away to produce power)
+can obtain high levels of boost pressure
-install requires new manifold and intake tract

To be specific, right now the only available supercharger option for I4 Tib is NGM's Enforcer.

IMO THE Supercharger will be "kind of " easier/faster to install, give you better lower end torque, Cost "Starting" at $4000 for stg1 190whp, up to like $6000 for full stg2 of 230whp.

Turbo on the other hand, will be as easy to install if you pick the right parts (or kits) that guaranteed to bolt on your car (check NT Sponsors).
Cost starting at around $2500-3000 for a 190whp setup up to may be $6000-7000 for a 300-350whp machine.

I was at that point, and ended choosing Turbo for me.

i found a S/C on performancesi.com for $3400 its 100% bolt on with a reflashed ECU with it and it claims to increase HP by 60%.... and the things ive read about turbos is that you can get a kit for like 3400 but you also need the header and the reflash and a shop to install and tune it wich will end up to about 5000 for a decent setup.... please correct me if im wrong

no, that "psi" is just re-selling alpine kits, which are not available since john fled the country with a lot of people's money.

they dont seem to have any news or information on that site anyway?

A turbocharger will give you better numbers, cheaper. It will also make it easier to upgrade different parts of the setup in the future.

I am surprised no one mentioned the eBay turbinator setup yet. Heard it gives .02bar on an easy install and destroy.

LOL I'm just kidding ^^^^ for those who didn't know. Well, I'm not. I don't recommend it. You know what I mean.

Turbo charging is much more efficient. Unless you can afford a TVS blower the efficiency isnt there IMO to run on a 4cyl. Although TC over at NGM seems to think its worth it. He sure knows a hell of a lot more about tibs then I do. I just dont think making 220whp but using 50 to spin the blower is efficient.

Go to goggle and type in turbo vs supercharger and you can read for days and find lots of reasons why one is better than the other. It comes down to what you want out of your car. Low end torque for normal daily street conditions which is what I use most. I can't tell you much about a turbo, my only hands on experience is a rented SVO turbo/intercooled 4 cyl Mustang years ago and really didn't like the lag. I'm sure todays turbos are better.

I based my decision on an old 62 Corvette I once had. I built a 337 super street racer motor and it would pull hard all the way to 8000 RPM. The only thing was I seldom got to use it. It was go to jail speeds in any gear but first. My girlfriend blew the motor and I couldn't afford to build a new one so I put a stock 350 back in it. It signed off at about 4 grand, but for most of my driving it was just as much fun as the hot motor. It still pulled hard down low, just didn't sound as good when it idled.

End result I went for a S/C on my Tib for the torque, like the way it pulls in first and second. It goes pretty good in 5 th at freeway speed too. The S/C only takes about 30 HP to drive at full boost, almost zero when it's in bypass.

Nothing is free and a turbo is a restriction in your exhaust. It doesn't sap any power directly off the crank but is does have some effect and I would think the exhaust restriction tends to hold more heat in the motor which isn't such a good idea either.

Both of them will make your Tib more fun to drive. It depends on your driving style and where you want the power most.

i like fast cars.... im in love with ripping through first and breaking the tires lose into second from the torque... i want a fast easy upgrade cheep upgrade that has power on the push of my foot to the firewall.... i guess im still mixed between what i want... i want the sound of a turbo but the torque and power on demand of a supercharger lol..... maybe ill get both and be the first to have a superturbocharger lol

hahaha i wish..... even if it was true... the tib motor couldnt handle the pressure.... it would be like 30 LBS of boost lol you might be ok the first time you start it... but as soon as you jump on the throtle you motor would blow up into a milion pices lol

A IHI RHB-5 will give you instant low end torque (2500rpm full boost) and 220whp if you know how to tune it well.

what is that?!?!?! haha

The whine that comes through a CAI when the S/C is boosting sounds pretty nice too.

I like the instant torque from the S/C, makes the motor think it's way bigger than it really is.
