That might fly in Cali...

Its long and mildly humorous because of the officers comments. I still don't know his name.

So, About a week or so ago I was parked under a no parking sign and a cop tells me to move. I start up the tib and he states "That's an illegal exhaust system.", I tell him I will fix it that night and he drives away.

So, I figure wtf, who cares I let it go.

Today, I get a knock on my door. Its him! He says "Remember me? You told me you were going to get that exhaust system fixed about 2 weeks ago, well today I get a complaint about your exhaust system. So what happened?"

I told him I didn't do it, obviously.

He goes into this long story about how its all noise.
Quotes:
"Those motorcycles, uh Harleys, they have straight pipes, that's just noise."
"The reason Canada has these laws is its just unnecessary noise and power."
"Do you take that and track race it?" I respond with no, its for fuel economy.
he responds with
"It's for power, did you feel the power increase? Did you? Did you?" I said "Yeah, slightly."

Then he asks
What did you pay for that exhaust sysytem $2000.00? Is it a Flowmasters?
I said nope, its a Mussa, he looks at me with a confused face, I responed "But, whatever."

He asks me how I am going to fix it, I told him I would get silencers.
What are those he asks, mufflers or packing?
I say no, neither, they are caps that go on the end of the mufflers.
He tells me that I don't have mufflers, its straight pipes
I say okay.
How do they work (silencers), he asks
I explain they increase back pressure and force the exhaust sound back onto itself cancelling itself out and allowing less exhaust to exit the vehicle at high velocity.
He nods at me. (I don't think he knew what I was saying. I also used me hands so this might have been what confused him.)

He then says "Okay, that stuff might fly in Cali, but that doesn't work up here. I am not asking you to get it inspected, but I am asking you now why I should believe you that you will get it fixed when you lied to me before?" I respond "Because I don't want a ticket."

That stuff flies in Cali? Did something change?

He gives me a week to sort it out and he is going to do a drive by my house and check.

So now I need Mussa silencers for the angle tipped exhaust.

And those are quotes of what he said. I responded to all his questions with respect, I wasn't cocky or anything.

Sorry for the long post.

if you have mufflers then what the hell... almost all the motorcycles here are insanely LOUD and annoying

This cop is messing with you... Everytime I'm out there driving I hear alot of loud exhaust systems and cops are sitting in the parking lot with their donuts... I dunno check the law book or something

I know he is messing with me. But, there is nothing I can do, I have to get the silencers. Its a noise violation.

But, seriously... HE talks to me about it and then HE get a complaint about ME almost 2 weeks later. LOL at that.

But anyways, where can I get Mussa silencers?

I don't know if it's something you'd want to do or not, but I was ready to shoot myself from all the drone and increased noise from the headers I put in, I was literally embarrassed to drive my car because it was that loud- I put in the Magnaflow muffler that Photoman recommended (part no. 11216) in his thread and I can't tell you how happy it's made me- the drone is gone and unless I get on the gas you can hardly hear it at all, but yet it keeps the best parts of the exhaust noise especially when you go WOT. If you're looking for a decent solution, that may be an option to look at.

No dude in Cali you just get a state ref ticket which is basically a bench warrant for your car. If you drive it and you dont have it signed off by a state ref, they'll take the car. State ref checks usually come on a ticket that says "No officer sign off" also which means even if you have cop friends they can't help. In Cali, no way that stuff flies. But also the cops are too busy to do house calls I think, that's just weird.

The Mussa angle tip isn't exactly very subtle visually or audibly is it ? It can sure attract the sound nazis . If the silencers don't keep this dick of a cop happy you may have a harassement issue on your hands .

did that cop follow you home?? lol.

ive had cops complain about my exhaust too but only in the fact it's not stock. they complimented my car and said .. just dont drive it like you stole it and try to impress the ladies (i just wanted to make the light before it turned red lol) ... and let me go.

i dont know where my silencers are though... sorry =/

DUUUUUUUUUUDDDDdddeeee thats hilariouse. Ok so heres what the law states up here in canada. It has to be under a certain decimal level. Motorcycles have the same decimal level law. So if a motor cycle is louder than ur car, it is safe.

I once got pulled over for the same **** this is how mine went down.

Officer-"you know your exhaust is illegal"
Me-"How is it illegal"
Officer-"Well for one its way too loud, I could here your car from 700 Meters away and second, your pipes are too big"

Lmao ok I have DC headers with the mussa angle tip exhaust and i was wide open throttle(he pulled me over for speeding)

Me- "Wow 700 meters thats impressive but i don't belive you, and it's not illegal pipe size"

Officer tells me to step out of my car and follow him to the back of my vehicle. I **** 3 bricks cause i'm thinking i'm gettin my car towed and i'm goin to jail for bein a smart ***.

So he pulls my speding ticked off his clip bored and holds the back of it up to my muffler and it makes an imprint on the ticket as proof.

officer says to me next "see its too bick and this is proof"
Me" Hold on now thats just the tip of my exhaust, I'm not 100% sure on the law but i'm pretty sure i can make that as big as i want as long as it doesn't scrap the ground. If you look inside the tip you'll see the actuall diamiter of the pipe is alot smaller. Its 2.5 inches to be exact."

Officer bends down and takes a look

officer- well ok then why is the tip so big and why is it so loud. i was 700 meters away when i heard you so I came down this road following the noise and i caught you speeding"

I chucle as this guy is a comedian with his 700 meters away thing - "well its not that loud when your not wide open throttle on this thing. Plus it's all straight piping theres just these 2 mufflers and a resonator"

Officer hands me my ticket for speeding and asks-" so let me get this straight you have 2 mufflers on this thing and it's still that loud, i have a hard time beleiving your stories son"

Me-" Well they are racing mufflers not traditional mufflers like your squad cares have. these are straight through mufflers and they only muffle a little bit of sound so it doesn't impede the exhaust flow"

Officer- " Ah i see and why would you want these on your car"

Me-" better fuel milage"

offficer-" are you joking"

me-" .... well its mostly for performance but i have noticed a huge increase in fuel economy."

officer then gets a call on his radio for something more seriouse and lets me go with a speeding ticket and a B.S. warning about my loud *** exhaust.

But i read somewhere that it has to be under a certain decimal level and it's a high decimal level like 98 or some shitz like that. thats how bikes get away with ratling your windows.

I still can't belive the whole 700 meter thing tho.. . cracks me up.... he was haulin *** when he caught me though
