The rust is fixed, so now what? (with pics of the process so far)
About four or so months back, someone grazed my rear driver-side fender in a parking lot, and scraped it bad enough to expose metal. Worst of all, I have no idea who did this, and I haven't been able to afford the $650 to have the paint and body fixed like new.
It has since begun to rust, so I've started working on a temporary solution.
I peeled off the loose paint with a knife, sanded the surface rust with some automotive sandpaper, and taped off the area around this spot.
I sprayed the area with a coat of Klean-Strip Rust Converter (turns rust to black primer). You can tell the area that had the rust is starting to darken.
And here it is, after its third coat and a little over an hour of drying.
Now obviously I have a lil more sanding to do (i've got some 1000 and 2000 grit sandpaper) to smooth over the imperfections, and possibly another coat or two of this stuff before I do anything else, but what else do any of you recommend I do from there?
I'm being cheap (obviously) and just want it to look decent and not have to worry about it rusting again. I'll have all of this fixed up like new when I've got the money saved up, but for now, should I invest in some touchup paint from the dealership, or do any of you suggest an alternative route to giving this a decent painted look?
Any help is appreciated.
