now i read modified/superstreet/sport compact car

and there are never any tibs in there. my question is why dont we get a fair shot? there are more scion Tc's then tibs in these mags and that including the ad's for preformance parts. whats the deal with this crap its pissing me off

You get pissed off easily.

If I were you, I would be thankful it's not plastered everywhere. Everyone and their dog has a Civic or Scion to modify. Tibs are a rare breed. And I have issues of SuperStreet, Import Tuner and (I think) Modified with Tib articles in them.

Time for some Valium, son.

This is exactly why I bought a Tib over a tC.
No we dont get press coverage, and no the aftermarket scene isnt as plentiful, but its nice not seeing a Tib on every other street corner. Plus, lets face it, the tC is awful.

Mags have mainstream vehicles, because they are sponsored by mainstream vehicles and mainstream vehicle aftermarket support. On the grande scheme of things, tibs occupy a small fraction of that market, coupled witht the old history of hyundai undependibiity from the past. It's like boring people that listen to the top 40 music. There's a lot more out there to be heard that's not mainstream, and/or boring, but here's not a huge market in it. Be glad your one of the elite that has some individuality and won't settle for a civic or eclipse because that's what everyone else drives. Hyundai appears to be rising up the food chain. One day, they too will probably end being the mainstream that everyone drives, and we'll all be looking for something different.

personally, i like pulling in to a store somewhere and having at least one or two people compliment me on my car and ask me what kind it is. you should see their reaction when i tell them its a hyundai! its just priceless! so keep it on the unknown side but a few more aftermarket products wouldnt hurt though. thats my .02

You have an ultra-fun car that will not exist in this form too much longer.
Enjoy whatever you do to it.
The endless comments and stares of disbelief when people wonder how the korean market made an beautiful italian lined car.
Just let the lack of Tibs be a show of justification as you have race and show winners consistently on this site alone.
The endless camera phone pics while driving or fingertips on the tinted windows.
The 'underdog' role does not always feel bad as it keeps the fires burning.
Though you can always place issues in the incinerator if they annoy you that much.

yeah i thought the same thing. then i started thinking like everyone else. i LOVE having a car that no one really sees or knows about. it's freakin awesome. you have random people approach you asking about the tibby cause they have never seen it or have and finally get a chance to actually find out what it is and how f*cking awesome the car really is

I feel the same. When I see the tC everywhere I think, that';s not right. Then I realize it's backed by Toyota. The modders market is influenced by mods and the mods are influenced by the modders. When you're got an automotive giant behind a car, they can just say, this is the car you want to drive. It's not fair, but, on the otherhand, would I have bought the Tibby if I saw it around as much as I see a tC or a Mustang or celica? I see probably 20-30 mustangs a day! About half are the new ones. There are like 4 tiburon owners within 30 miles. ... The fact that BMW and Porche drivers glance at the Tib. And the fact that a Classic Mustang 289 chased my Tibby the other day, and men and women alike seem drawn to stare at it as I pass by is why I almost wish noboby else owned this car.

No problems here with the Tib not getting the exposure it deserves. With the amount of street attention it draws normally, it's preferable that it is an unknown.

On the flip side, it does deserve far more credibility than it's given.

I love gettin asked what kind of car I drive. I love when people ask me what kinda car a Tuscani is. I'm so happy I bought this as my first car. I'm keeping it till it dies on me, b/c I'm not buying that new facelift.....

I'm upset that there isn't more aftermarket for our cars, but its out there, and if you look you''ll find it. I like the fact that most tib owners I see don't have the mods i've found. So what sometimes you gotta get it from korea, haha. Rant on, but I'm still happy my car isn't mainstream.

that's the same reason i got a tib. it wasn't mainstream.

anyway....couple of tibs has been on the mags in 2003 - '04. i think it was Import Tuner had the A'pexi, a min kit tib in red with a turbo. http://www.importtuner.com/features/0303it_custom_hyundai_tiburon/index.html Super street april 2004 showed Ingen's tib. modified i think showed a silver tib with a whole sound system done.

I was driving through the main lot here at school the other day and saw a new 06 Tib and went "Damn, there are 3 of us here now." My friend, who was sitting next to me, didn't understand what I was talking about...but think about that. Out of the 8,000 cars or so that are here everyday I've seen two other Tibs. By my house I've counted 5, one of them a RD.

Compare that to the 12 Mustangs I counted parked in the lot in my vicinty. I only counted because I actually noticed just how many stangs were there. I think there were 3 Lancers, a few Eclipses, countless Hondas and one 02 Camaro that I noticed. Now this was just outside my apartment court, not really a big lot at all. Yeah, it's definately cool to be different, to have those mustang drivers look at my car with confusion when I tell them it's Korean. I'd like more aftermarket stuff, of course, but I'd also keep everything the way it is if I had a say.

I also like how no one seems to know about them. People have said the craziest things to me. Just on the way to work tonight, some girl in a 3000GT was looking at the Tib for like 2 minutes as she hovered around my car on the freeway to get a good look from all angles. It's funny because the 3000GT was nice but it didn't look great next to the TIb. Ha.

I like having a car that is different then the other imports out there...I'm usually the only one with a Tib at the local car shows but still get the shaft with all the bias judging from the local car clubs in ATL at least...if you don't have an EVO, STI, S2000, 350 Z, or even a Honda of some kind you aren't anything apparentlly in the ATL scene...they all pat one another's backs when it comes to judging...

you mean jerk each other off?

People that buy tibs do so because they aren't mainstream. They do so because it is different, unique and uncommon compared to its sport compact counterparts. I for one and glad the car isn't splattered all over the mags and what-not. But then my ego doesn't need stroked by the fact of being one of the "in crowd" or whatever. You want a car that is seen in "all the mags" then go buy one. you want to be different, be happy with your tibby. Nothing is more fun then being underestimated.

I have over 15 magazines with pictures of my car in it from shows. I have my car featured on the cover of GR8 in Belgium, which I still have never seen the article. In Japan, there was a half page from the Dub show in California a few years back. I have been on NopiTV twice. My Tib was on ESPN 2 in 2003 and has also been on Espn the SEMA show from 2004. Trojan has had a few magazine shots and articles as well. Be patient. It is better that we have a rare breed than to have what everyone else has. I like being different. It is better that way. Heck I remember Babemona even had her car depicted in an ad in S3. They are out there, just not everywhere.

same reason i got my Tib was b/c of it not being mainstream but more mainstream than my last car. my last car was a one of a kind in the world the way i had it setup and i was gonna be turbocharged by now but i wrecked it. and i'm gonna get burned for saying this i know it. my last car was a 2001 Daewoo Lanos hatchback.

this is a stock one

this is before i re-painted it.

From the front it almost looks like a civic hatch with the lights painted

a civic???? no this one was a honduh eater. little thing up and went since it was only 2200lbs. but getting back to the subject just be glad that tibs aren't as bad in after market support compared to a Daewoo. the body kit came from south korea and australia, and everything else i put on or planned on getting was gonna have to be custom. so tibs have 1000% more support. but you still can't see ten of them in a walmart parking lot.
