anyone who has a set of vertical doors that wouldent mind meeting up with me so that i could see first hand how they operate and to take some measurments so that i would be able to fabricate a set of them myself, it would be much appreciated. i have wanted vertical doors for a long time but couldent afford them, but i know i could design and make my own easily if i had a general idea to start from. and if i am able to do it without making my doors fall off, i could make a a batch of them for other proplr on the forum.

how cheap is cheap cause am intrested just i always thought there just way to pricey for me just for a hinge and harness

well dont for get that the door hinge has to be made to open the door and lift the door, and HOLD the weight of a 150+ lbs door.... dont thing it is soo easy to design and fabricate.

The fab. could be easier if you have all the proper machinery and all to make em...

But also you have to consider, people want doors and open wider (easier to get and out of the car) and also higher....

Yes i do believe that is really expensive just for hinges.... but you do have to understand their function and the durability of something....

its like buying everything else for cars.... its expensive just for either show, or power....

but cheaper would be nice.. if price would go down to $500, and would last long and no warping in the hinges and all then that would be great...

AJ's (fixers) MUSSA doors are THE best doors on the market.

you get what you pay for. too many fvckin ppl try to take the cheap way out of everything. if u wanna buy the cheap doors from SR, so be it. ur car, not mine.

(not directed at you matt)

the point isnt to have a cheaper set of vert doors, the point is to have an inexpensive set of vert doors. there is a big difference, i will never make anything cheap. Cheap is what stupid people buy, and what stupid people make. i want to make a set of hinges for less money but that will have no failures. and i cannot say how much it will cost me to make them becasue i still am unsure as to how to make the hinges, thats why i need to see a car that already has a set of them installed. but i know that buying a set of hinges for around 900$ is way over priced.

I agree :3_winkthu

i've thought about doing this for a very long time. I just can't imagine transfering the dimensions. i know lots of people that work in machine shops and i work at a steel plant, i think i need to start doing some more research before i try it. but in honesty it would be for shiz and giggles....i dont trust my engineering skillz

Speaking from the experience of someone who bought the kit... attempted to put it on... and put the car back to normal... dont' bother fabricating this. I've held the hinge in my own hand and wondered why i didn't think to buy a CNC machine, ball bearings, and some bolts. Prolly cus they cost around 900. Do it right. Trust me. There's nothing like knowing you have a bolt stripped off and stuck in one of your doors :)

If you work at a machine shop and all, just buy a set, copy the dimensions and make your own... course you have the legal matters to consider also; but you can then sell the kit for a minimal loss because it was never installed and you should get about 80% of what you paid for it, and now you have your own kit and your own dimensions and you can sell more "knockoff" kits at a cheaper price.

Just becareful if you go this route, remember the legal reasons, then rmember what might happen if other people bought "your product" and get in an accident and such that insurance might blame faulty door hinges is the reason they could not get out of the car or whatever damn insurance people can think of to blame everyone else but the actual driver for.

good luck,
Keoni.

well everyone thanks for your 2 cents, but i already started making my own hinges becasue i couldent find someone with a set i could look at. And since none of you are engineers or machinists you dont realize that a 2 way hinge is pretty stupid simple to design and make, its all just a stress analsis and since i usually make prototype high pressure gasoline direct injection pumps which i beleive is a little more of a challenge, i think i will be all right. so anyway i will soon have my own custom set of vert doors, so thank all of you for absolutly no help at all.

let us know if they come out good and work well. i wanted the doors, but wont pay the price either. so if you can do it cheaper i'll consider it. thanx

cheap is what smart people sell to stupid people
