whenever i turn on my AC i lose a lot of power and cannot accelerate as fast as with the AC off, so i was just wondering what is the easiest way to gain back some of that power without spending a lot of money. i don't really have a lot to spend.

p.s. don't say to just turn the AC off and roll down the windows. its too hot to do that every second that i drive.

forgot to say that i have a sub thats taking a little of that power too. i'm guessing a yellow top battery would help out but i don't know

Well you answered your own question. Just when you are racing someone, or want that little bit of power back for acclerating. Hit the button the turn it off, then turn it back on when youre done. Easy

yeah but sometimes i want my windows up with the AC on and still have plenty of power to accelerate. would one of those yellow top batteries help that?

Have your AC system checked out... It may be running low, or need lube. However, you WILL feel it a bit when you have your AC on. It's a sacrifice you make to feel comfortable when you drive.

I turned mine on yesterday for a while, and barely noticed it. You SHOULD run your AC for about 10 minutes every month to keep it well lubed internally.

as the old saying goes, "you can't have your cake and eat it too". nothing you do short of either turning off the A/C, or as some old-fashioned V-8 tuners used to do, cut the damn A/C belt off and get even more power.

EDIT: i know the tiburon doesn't have a seperate A/C belt

No it won't. The drag the AC is putting on the car is robbing HP and more voltage isn't going to fix it. Add a CAI or exhaust. But the car will always run better with the A"C off.

If you put a CAI on and it runs great. However, after a while your going to get used to it and then you'll turn the A/C on and have the same ***** that you do now because you will still feel the A/C kick on.

it doesnt make that much of a difference. i messed my ac compressor up on the the header install and now i dont have it hooked up and now have a shorter belt. i would rather have the ac on than the extra tiny bit of power i have but eh.... compressors r expensive. plus i live in texas..... hot as a mofo!

i guess i can get used to it but i'll probably still get a yellow top since my system is dimming my lights. i don't need a better alternator if i get a yellow top battery do i? i wouldn't think so but i just wanna make sure before i get the battery. thanks

Doolz, you might see about getting a smaller pulley for your alternator. At idle, it might be going too slow, causing the current to drop, thus dimming your lights when your sound system hits.

Yellowtop is actually a very good idea. And you won't need a new alternator b/c optima batteries actually charge faster then regular batteries b/c of their design. You will actually be putting less stress on the alternator than now, especially if you are draining a lot out of it with a high-power sound system. Right now your battery is probably in a state of continous charging, but it never gets fully charged b/c your system drains so much power.

get a capacitor to help with the electrical system stress,
p.s. the battery has nothing to do with losing power when you turn on the a/c the its is driven by the crank pulley it takes about 5-10 hp to run the a/c compressor thats what you are feeling

having the ac on makes u lose 5 hp and about 8 torque if u have an intake and exhaust. I know cus i accidentally left mine on on my first dyno run.

Its not a huge difference. U shouldnt notice it that bad unless something is wrong.

I have a sub (12" sub and a 820watt rms amp), stock battery, in my i4, my car use to get bitchey when I turn on the AC, but ever since I got ground wires thats been a different story... I suggest you get ground wires man... and a optimia battery wouldn't hurt, but ground wires are a bit cheaper and do help for this situation, esspecially in the i4...
