OK so ryloth and myself installed an intake spacer today and i got to see the inside of my upper IM. The car has 3,500 miles on it, and has only had an SRI on it since mile 500. I drive hard, but this is def a large amount of oil. Greddy oil catch tank is my next mod.

EDIT - my post was not to say "what should I do" but rather to show you how much oil actually gets in a car w/ 3K miles on it and only has an SRI. all you people sould be putting some form of oil catch can on your cars. fyi...that oil that goes through that line is HOT. really hot. it chared some of my silicone ground wire that was resting on a foam insulated piece of the tube.

theres a DIY for how to make a custom one i did it and it works great plus its cheap lol

haha thanx for the info. i know about it. i was putting it off b/c i didnt think stock would produce that much oil. it does and i am amazed at the sheer volume in my IM.

If top brand oil catch can is more than affordable then at least get a knock off oil catch can on ebay or something....

I have checked out so called DIY on oil catch can with air compressor moisture filter but that product isnt made for withstanding motor oil and since there is filter inside which may clog in long term.....

I am not trying to bash someone's idea here but to inform that there are cheap priced oil catch can out there which are really affordable....... I wouldnt choose those knock off products over respected brand products but at leaset those knock off products works and cheap....

Go get something thats made for what you are trying to do.....

Well the filter DIY still serves it's purpose of catching oil, the same as your greddy or knock off catch cans. And btw, you remove the filter part before you install on your car.....

So you have all this oil coating your intake tract now... is your current condition reversible by slapping an oil catch can on? Like will the coating of oil blow off and the lack of additional oil eventually leave you w/a clean IM? Or will this only minimize any addition oil from recirculating and building up?

well, if there is oil in there right now and u just slap an oil catch can on, that oil will sit on the bottom of your IM and some of might get sucked in but overall it will just sit and cake there. the only true way to get it out is take off your uppera nd wipe it out. the oil catch can will keep any more oil from getting in there.

So what does synthetic oil do? I run synthetic but plan to do this mod
tonight, I don't want anything to get messed up.

people have been running synth in their catches for 1+ years w/ no signs of damage to the plastic resevour. if you are that worried, they make metal ones, u just cant see through them.

Yeah my stock IM was looking like yours. So when I got the Stage IV I ordered up my Cusco catch can right away. I saw the DIY catch can, but I didn't want to be draining the thing all the time. What can I say... I like large cans ;).

I figure that would be the case. Eh, not like a thin coating would make much of a difference. Maybe after 15 years and 150,000 miles. Though the lack of oil in the air would probably be better (absolutely minimally of course) for performance, and minimize the mess from this point forward.

that isnt exactly a small amount of oil. there was about 3 tablespoons total. and it doesnt just sit there and pool or coat, it gets sucked down into your cyliners and burned off. this is the top of the lower IM.

Be sure to give us a review on it. I didn't look at the details, but the one that says only $12 is pretty sweet, haha.

$12 plus $26 shipping and handling..... and the actual UPS shipping cost about $8....

After shipping they are selling it about $30.... still cheap~~ We have Megan racing's catch can that looks just like it...(Made in China) and they made just like Greddy's (minus the brand and detail finish quality) and should work fine....

I personally would choose Greddy's( I am a brand freak also) over copies but if any members who doesnt want to spend that much on Greddy's ..at least get a knock off like the one on ebay....
