im wanting a system and i went to circuit city cuz they have the best subs and to get a really good system is gonna be around 900 which is 2 kicker 12s and a 1200 watt amp plus wires and instillation i already have a 220 dollar pioneer headunit....i better start savin :3_nooo:

do u have a custom sounds around your part of town they have deal...if not the ebay way is the best way

my 2 kicker 12s cost me 120 with shipping. my amps, different story. original wiring kit was only like 45 bucks from walmart. u my friend are gettin ripped off. sorry

first off subs and an amp are not a "system"...they're subs and amps, 1/2 of a system at best.

secondly...circuit city has the best??? What were your choices, there and wal-mart?

You've got a bit of learning to do, my friend

i got a good head unit and tib speakers r really good yeah not many shops in dville georgia just circuit city, best buy, walmart.....there is sound proof which is obviously a stereo shop but i figured i would get ripped off there i could be wrong

well do u know anyone who is capable of instalation? if not possibly do this, have a shop run your amp kit then buy your subs and amp online i can give u some good sites and i bet money the sites will save you hundreds. i like ikesound alot. they have lots of kicker stuff if u like them. but they have some good deals on alpine maybe check them out. and some hifonics amps not too expensive and sound pretty good

Here's my two cents from my personal experience in the past: :3_winkthu

You say you have a head unit - good.

Wiring kit - Buy new from ebay. Make sure you get one with a good fuse in it direct from the battery.

Get the subs/box off ebay. Just make sure you get them new. Used speakers are too risky. This will save you tons of money.

Also get the amp off ebay. If you're looking for a good cheap amp go with Crunch (If they still make them). My room mate and I have used them in the past and the quality is great. You can get about 800-1000 watt max amp for about $150.

Installation: Head units are really hard to install (IMO). I tried in the past, but failed. I would get the sound shop near your house to do that. They shouldn't charge you too much. Just call around and ask for prices, then choose the best. Also have them run the wiring kit.

As far as wiring the amp with your power, ground, and blue wire from your head unit, that is really easy. The amp will tell you where to put what. Then depending on the number of channels your amp has, you can either bridge it or run speaker wire straight from the channels to the outputs on your box.

I hope this helps you some. I would say that any big store like Circuit City or Best Buy will rip you off big time. You can save alot of money finding someone to help you like a friend, and just getting the parts off line.

I will be glad to help you if I can, just PM me.

No! NO! That's a bad newbie. Don't buy a box online (unless maybe it's specifically built for you application). Prefab boxes generally = teh suck.

And HU install is probably the easiest part of putting a system in. The hardest part about it is maybe soldering the wires if you've never done it before, but I figured that out pretty much my first time to ever see a soldering iron.

I have to disagree with you man. I might be a newbie to the site, but I usually know what I'm talking about, so plz dont use that term :3_pimatyo

About what you said, I'll agree with not buying a box online, because I never did. It would cost too much to ship it because they are so damn heavy. HOWEVER, if you get something like a bandpass box (built for the application) then it would be smarter to get the package online.

About the HU. First of all when I did have my old system, you had to have some kind of special tool to get the HU out (which i didn't have). The wiring isn't too complicated, but I'd rather get it professionally done in fear of breaking something.

Why would you solder any wires?

Like i said bro, this is my two cents, you can do what you want! :3_shiny:

I think we're missing some important questions here.....

What is your goal here? Earth shattering bass? High db (volume)?, clean balanced sound? Do you care about how much space in the hatch you are going to have available?
Help us out a little more with the model number of your head unit so that we can look some specs.

And Justin (Speedcheeser) is right. Make sure you have soldered your wires. When done properly, it offers the least amount of resistance in your wiring. Crimping is lazy.

Here are some DO's and DON'Ts for ya...
DON'T look at max output of an amplifier when shopping for an amp. It is a marketing scheme that falsly advertises what the amp can do in real life. Look at RMS output per ohm. That is the true output of the amp. (the same rules apply for buying speakers)
DON'T but a prefab box from anywhere online. They rape you on the shipping and you can't get a look at the build quality before hand.
DON'T take shortcuts when wiring up your system (daisy chaining power cables, neglecting fuse holders, leaving exposed wires, not removing paint before grounding a wire to the body.) Doing a system takes time so you might want to get it right the first time so you don't have to redo anything.

DO shop around online retailers. I personally like www.onlinecarstereo.com, but there are many out there that offer competitive prices and good service.
DO get your wiring done by somebody else if you are not comfortable with something. Most people starting out are worried about breaching the firewall or pulling their carpet up, but it's not that big of a deal. Reserch online and search the site (this site has a lot of info on installing a system in a tib).
and finally... Ask around! You've obvioulsy figured that one out by posting here. Just be careful because there is good info as well as bad info out there. Everybody's got an opinion, but you can generally figure out what's right and wrong with common sense. :3_winkthu
