I have been having a hell of a time with the gear shifting on my 06 Tiburon se. every gear has to be damn near forced in. when I am driving slow and granny shifting it seems fine but when I get on it, every time I shift its a crunch shift and more often then not it grinds a little going into 3rd gear.. Anyone else think its the synchronizer? I'm going to take it in to get fixed since I just bought it and it still has the warranty. Better to let them fix it free than me fix it. I don't have a lot of time to do that and haven't done any tranny work ever so I think its best I let them do it.

Are the syncros covered by the warranty? When I had bought a used Integra the drivetrain was under warranty and it needed a tranny rebuild. When they rebuilt the transmission, they didn't replace the worn syncros and I had to pay $600 for them to replace the clutch.

Good point, I'm asking Monday. Thanks for that.

Let us know what they say and how it goes.

Like @dmdicks said, it could also be something else like even the master/slave cylinder, air in the system, bushings, etc.
I sure will. Calling early morning tomorrow. Sure ain't happy about it. On a side note, this Mazda 6 been following me around all day. Told them 500 or shut up. Wouldn't do the cash but I still burned em up. Figure might as well give her hell while still on waranty. I should have supercharger money in a month. Stoked about that.

Syncro problems were common with the Aichi 6 speeds.

There's a guy up here that has done several transmissions for me. He's quick, pretty cheap, and good.

In the meantime, go after that stealership with both barrels.

If I were to keep driving it the transmission should **** up right? They won't cover it because it's a part that is made to wear out or some ****. No quote but had a place in Owatonna quote me for 3100 for the rebuild. That's ****ing nuts. The dealership blows ass. I'm so pissed. Wish I could throw some pebbles in there and give it a go and drain the fluid and refill it and bring it back.

In general, you "won't kill the trans" if the synchro's are bad & you drive it", PROVIDED you're not grinding gears.
Heck, many years ago there WERE NO SYNCHRO'S in a trans! Maybe @oni888 can say more, it's before my time (LOL).
But, you need to be good at "rev matching" (or double clutching) and be kind to the trans. If you "jam it", yes, you will eventually kill the trans.
Even if the synchro's are good, "jamming it" will hurt expensive bits.
:frown2:

Not sure what to say regarding the seller, likely you are "SOL"..... sorry.

I bought it from a dealership. Used. It has a 6,000 mile 6 year power train warranty

Yeah you can't sell crap to people and have the transmission go out right away, then charge them thousands to fix it. Tell those bastards they have one chance to fix the car to your satisfaction before you file a claim in small claims court, then go file on them right away if they hesitate. It's cheap and easy to do, and they may well relent once they get the court summons. Tell them to stick their warranty exclusions straight up their *****. That's why I hate dealerships so bad.
My guy charged me $500 plus parts with the tranny out of the car, IIRC. I think I had $800 into it when it was all done, and I had broken a shift fork plus bad syncros.

hate to say it but heres another case of "Caveat Emptor" (the paperwork probably stated "as is".) i have one of those "warranties" too and its not worth the paper its printed on but i also have a couple years left on the OEM warranty which isnt quite as bad but of course there are ways out if it. bought one once and took it up the keester a couple weeks later when a valve burned. never bought one again.(hump me once, your fault. hump me again, my fault). "double clutching" is probably a lost art. yes, i did learn to drive in a 20 odd year old leftover relic of a WWII era Jeep (go USMC!) with no synchros.

This is a terrible situation, the only thing I can say that might help is: from my experience with dealerships, they will always say no at first, see if you can speak to the highest level person inside that place first, and bring in a typed report of everything in a timeline from when you purchased the vehicle to when the issue started.

This would be my plan of action. depending on how that goes, even a low budget lawyer could provide you with the most current laws and procedures even if a car is sold as-is

Also, try to stay professional, getting angry with them will work against you, maybe a compromise would be in order.

I have heard of accommodations in the form of the buyer pays labor, and the dealer covers the cost of the parts.. or vice versa..

I just found out today from the highest person there that they have a 30 day 1 time only return policy. Tomorrow I'm telling them to fix it or take it back. Not worth the hassle. I can save money and go elsewhere. I don't really want to go that route but I will if I have to.

There you go!! Man up!! I'd also be in contact with the Better Business Bureau.

On a side note you can find pretty cheap used trannys on Car-Part.com. Be much cheaper to pay someone to swap in a used one than rebuild your current one.

Yeah I dropped it off, they're looking at it so we will find out exactly what is going on. On the warranty it clearly says all internal parts on the transmission. A synchronizer is an internal lubricated part. Every mechanic I've talked to says the same thing

Found out synchronizers are covered! Now they're saying that the problem is the clutch. The only part not covered. Imagine that! Getting a lawyer because already have two mechanics saying it's not the clutch, it is the synchros. So I'm clearly going to have to get our money back since it is a breach in the contract.
