As for swapping the bearings between the two? Back when I was doing my timing belt, I was thinking the exact same thing. Maybe I could swap the new bearing that came with the timing belt kit onto my old pointer style of tensioner? With that in mind, I pressed my old pointer style tensioner apart:
And I should have looked closely (before I spent the time taking my old one apart), but it looks to me like the bearing only style does not come apart like that. It looks to me like the whole whole center portion IS the inner race. There does not appear to be a separate inner race that would stay with the bearing after you press out the center portion. I didn't put it on my hydraulic press and try, but as weird as it is, it seems like the center portion does not simply press out:
