Alright I know this was in a thread a couple days ago started by Shiftmatix and i had emailed Alpine about this. I just wanted to post what they told me, even though everyone puts down the S/C on the 4.

my message to Alpine:
Hey guys, I am writing in regards to your 2.0L Beta II supercharger system.
I emailed about this a couple of weeks ago but got no response. I would
like to know if this kit fits the '03 or'04 version of the Beta II. I am in
the market for a supercharger and have found no one else with a kit. I am a
member of NewTiburon.com and have found a few other's interested in a
supercharger system for an I4 BEta II. If this kit does work, what all is
included, what is the cost, and would you have any more pictures and dyno's
available? ALot of the guys running the Alpine kit for the Delta have had
nothing but good news, I hope that this kit actually DOES exist for the I4.
Thanks for you time.

Their response:
Hi Jim,
We have a supercharge for the Beta I that needs some minor changes to fit
the Beta II motor. The kit is complete with all parts and electronics. price
is $2,900.00. Can't give you a exact date but it will be soon.

I hope this is good news to some, if not oh well. I will post any further responses I get from them

any news on this?

I am looking for a turbo or s/c kit for the 02-04 elantra/tiburon/trajet 2.0l 4cyl and the new 2.0l tib (2004 modell).

EDIT: the engine number for the 02-03 betas is G4JP I think and for the 2004 tib-engines it's G4GC. I need turbo or s/c for both types if possible!

This was posted how long ago? The FI forum wasn't even around when I posted this.

I only explored this as another option for our I4 guys. A S/C will provide power thru the entire power range, with no lag time, most people's concern is that the I4 will hurt the S/C's performance because a S/C uses the engine to provide its power rather than spent exhaust gases. Jackson Racing S/C's work very well on Honda's and Acura's, I have seen a few over 250-300whp using those setups, I wouldn;t turn my nose up at that.

If you get the supercharger and install it, i'll race ya with my turbo i4 and well see the difference.

alpine hasnt been able to get more than 165whp from their supercharger kit on an I4. You could go ahead and spend 3k on it (not including install), and still get beat by another tiburon spraying a 50 or 75 shot of nitrous.
Can't u continue to up the psi of the supercharger and continue to get higher whp numbers? I meen even if it takes having to upgrade injectors, or even getting new pistons, etc. can't u potentially get the same power from a supercharger than a turbocharger? like 200+?

ok ok ok.... I see, this is an endless discussion...

What I need is an easy-to-install turbo- or s/c kit for the 4cyl tib/elantra/trajet. I want it to get DOT approved here in switzerland, so it has to be reliable and it should not change emissions to badly.

what do you guys suggest? please post links if possible...

also to note.. that supercharger starts getting pretty hot..

anyways..

A turbo kit would need to be tuned in your country in order for it to be very conservative. A U.S. fuel map,.. wont exactly work as well halfway accross the world.

I suggest you look into piecing up your own turbo kit.
A small mitsu turbo should suit you well.

you mean tuned because of emissions? well sure, that will be a point. and that's why I'm looking for the best bolt-on kit out there to suit my needs. a bit tuning won't hurt us. but we don't want to build our own system because that would be to expensive.

Turbos are harder to tune than SC. SC is more straight forward and predictable. SC sap power from the belt, Turbos use up power from exhaust being backed up, they both cost power to drive, you don't get power without spending power. The difference is the type of compressor. A roots compressor is very inefficient, however a centrifugal compressor which is what a turbo uses is much more efficient. A centrifugal SC if built properly can be very efficient, and not be very far off on losses compared to a turbo setup. Turbos are usually slighly more efficient than centrifugal SC but not a ton more, but they are definately more complicated to tune, tuning a SC is much more straight forward, as you always know what boost you will be running at what RPM, turbos there is more assumptions and guess work that goes into it.

Turbo is more about using wasted energy. Suposedly 1/3 of the engines power is actually being used, the other 1/3 of the engines power is wasted via exhaust gases, and the other 1/3 of the engines power is used to cool down the engine. So I would tend to believe that a turbo is more about using wasted power in that aspect, while the supercharger is something that needs blunt engine power to run...

a turbo produces more hp and torque than a s/c running at the same exact pressure because a s/c pulls power from the engine...so..if you want to reach 300whp, it is more demanding on your engine to use a s/c to do it rather than a turbo because the s/c pulls power from the engine and requires more boost than the turbo which uses the exhaust gases

A turbo kit that is easy to install is the Gude kit, I will let you make the decision on anything else. Here is a link to where you can see it.

www.fluxperformance.com

and labmixz has a thread on going about his install and other things here in the FI forum. Good luck
thank you red! I will check it out then!

Alpine, it isn't as pretty as the GUDE kit with all the chrome piping but Alpine includes EVERYTHING. No need for additional fuel or timing controls, everything is taken care of by the Unichip. Price is about the same, shipping is very fast and all parts will be sent. No waiting for this peice or that peice to show up in the mail and if you can find a Alpine authorized installer you keep some warrenty also(not through Hyundai but it's still a warrenty on your car not just the parts of the kit).
