I know i'v started a lot of treads, but i'm having a lot of problems with my car. Big mistake to buy it.
Anyways, I called hyundai they ran the vin for me and it came with a 6 speed transmission. I bought this car, took it all apart and it has a 5 speed transmission in it. BUT the slave cylinder for a 5 speed doesn't work the 6 speed does ? ALSO the drivers side cv shaft for the 5 speed doesn't fit ? what the hell is going on this makes no sense.

This is a 2003 tiburon, made in january 2003, guy said it was a gt ? who know's guy was full of SH**

prolly had a shop throw in a trans after messing one up and they asked "standard or automatic" guy says "standard" without specifying and
BOOOM!
ur problem now!

lol.
might be able to sell that one and get a six speed *used* almost even

We went through all the gears, has 5 plus reverse, they all run smooth so i dont think the tranny is broken or anything, they guy told me only thing wrong was i needed a new clutch, so i take it apart and find all these things i need. So i was doing the fly and clutch, had to get a slave, but the 5 speed didn't fit, so i got a 6 and it fits, i also got a 5 speed cv shaft, but the diameter of it is way to small to fit in the whole in the transmission. I called hyundai they said it came factory a 6 speed, but if there is a 5 speed tranny why do non of those things fit ?
Had to tow it home, so i have never driven the car

going throught the gears as the transmission is out it does 1 and 2 straight up and down 3 and 4 straight up and down, then 5 there is nothing below is you go down and over to get to reverse.

1 3 5

2 4 R

sounds like the dual dildo ninja just fcked u :ninjaman:
and he didnt even use lube.
simple lesson learned here dont buy a car unless u test drive it

Show us pictures of the shifter, also remove the plastic cover/the shiftboot area and show us pictures of the inside. That will let us know if the shifter linkages inside the car are for a 6 speed, then you'll have to determine if the transmission itself is a 5 or 6 six speed.

Now, you said you had to pull up, and push over to hit reverse..... This sounds to me like the prior owner Blew out 6th gear....

because the 5 speed shift pattern has reverse right above first gear (i think).

so a five speed should be:
r/2/4
1/3/5

while the six speed is:
1/3/5
2/4/6/R

no im saying reverse is like normal shifting just you have to go farther to the right to go down cause you can't go straight from 5th to reverse, and i tried going into 6th even if it was blown, there isn't even a hint of a notch or anything where sixth gear would have been.

Post pics of the linkage under the shift plate and boot.

If you have a 6sp it WILL have a reverse lock out ring on the shifter. This exists to keep you going into reverse instead of 6th gear. The 5spd tranny does not have a lock out because its harder to accidentally go into reverse. My guess is you got screwed.

actualy there is a lock on the 5 speed transmissions... it only locks out 5th to reverse but if you put it in 4th then reverse then it will go in following the traditional 5 spd gear pattern

That is a 6 speed transmission from the pics you provided

not gonna lie... that doesn't look like my 6speed... it's been a few months but i'm pretty sure theres an extra piece missing off the end... (the 6th gear)

i maybe wrong... i'll look tomorrow... but i'm thinking the 6 speed is just a bit longer... either way there is a good chance the guy before you bought a 5-speed started putting it in and realized it won't work... and just put it together enough u couldn't tell... and handed his mistake on to u... if hyundai says it should be a 6-speed then i'd find someone local with a six speed to compare parts to and see if he partially swapped before giving up...

i have no clue what they're talking about with the shifter but i've never seen, drivin, or even sat in a 5-speed tiburon... if u look in the tech manual's there will be plenty of pics of 5-speed and 6-speed and most likely will have difference between model numbers of components like the slave cylinder (if it's different) if u search the forums for tech manual u'll find a link to download them...

u gotta remember logic says "compare to something" if nobody replies quickly then u'll have to find out urself... tech manuals save A LOT of guess work
