look in the NGM forum, forgot his name, but he is running over 300whp with the auto trans

 

with a built motor you can withstand 400whp +... it all depends what you're plannin to do with your car.. if you know you're goin to want to put out more than 300whp.. its probably a smart idea to build up your motor..

have your tranny checked under warranty..

the auto tranny is a stout little bugger. i know of at least 2 tibs that are running around 300whp on the stock auto and no problems... the manual (6 speed especially) is the one that needs help... you would need a performance clutch at the least..

 

are you slipping in 2nd to 3rd? if so it is common. it happened to me a lot, but it seemed to stop after I put some ground wires on (they haven't been on to long, so it just may be a cowinsadence(sp?))

as to max hp/tq, every car will have different reactions to mods, so I guess 300ish seems to be the average

if your going to mod, mod it all. not just engine

It happens whit my Tyb too, from second to third. If i go sraight down the road its ok ,but when i go down the hill it happens.

 

If I'm not mistaken ..I do Believe Chris(MinesBetter)hes' pushin 250 Whp+ and the only mod he has to the trans is the converter and a Posi ?..Not Positve tho and they say he has a nasty good launch with it.......and Tibby03 is running well over 300 + With some minor mods and Stall in his auto and there gonna push well past that(400 ? ) with his new set up.......realistically the trans is capable of handling 250 Hp all day and that is alot of go ponies

Tibby03 has a custom built race tranny by tc from NGM, correct me if Im wrong...

 

to solve your slipping tranny, let off as you shift gears just like a manual. May cost you a bit of time, but you can always make up for that with more boost (since at least your tranny will be in one peice)

 

I have been wondering the same thing for close to a year now. Since most of you guys are more experienced, what steps should us beginers take in modifying to keep our auto transmissions in one peice? I was gonna trade my tibby for a wrx, but all my buddys told me to stick with the tib. They all said to swap out my trans for a built 3 speed, but that sounds very pricey. My friend owns Strictly Modified in Schaumberg, IL, for any one from chicago, and I'm gonna go get their opinion. Any insight and advice would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Theres no built 3 speed. The only built transmission is offered by nextgen, however I dont think tim is ready to release it just yet. The autos though are good past 300whp just from what i seen in dynos and minesbetter tib. However alot of people have mentioned that a torque conventor is well worth the investment.

 

I will definitly look into a torque converter. Hopefully that LSD will be ready soon, because I would defenitly love to get my hands on one of those. Also maybe a transmission cooler, I've heard those help a great deal.

I am over 250whp with no probs.

Sounds like you just need your fluid and filter changed. Back around 30k miles on mine it acted like it was slipping but a fluid change fixed it right up. I am close to 60k now and it still shifts like new.

I think its speedfreak that has a lsd, its just hard has hell to find a tranny shop will to install one on a fwd auto. A tranny cooler helps also, but I wouldnt worry about this unless you go f/i

I looked up speed freaks LSD and its for the manual only. i know that an auto one is in the process of being made. is there a shift kit available for the auto trans that i can buy?
