my buddy and i continually have a disagreement as to which is better for daily driving. coilovers? or lowering springs w/ aftermarket struts?

opinions and reasons to back your opinions up are needed.

thanks.

in a general sense, obviously coilovers... they are the same as struts and springs plus damping, height, and usually camber adjustment... so for DD you can leave it higher up with a low damping rate, and for show or racing or w/e you can lower it and increase the damping rates.

Honestly there isn't one that's "better" for daily driving... It's really just personal preference.

personal preference.

I had to give up my coilovers because of the roads I started driving.

I eventually went with the koni struts and eibach kit, it was better but still rough.

so i went with koni + megan springs. a little better, but ...I really needed something very comfortable.

Now I am on OEM struts with ark springs. feels awesome, but I cannot take corners as I use to. :(

It is about personal preference but here is some food for thought.
I think coilovers are a better choice over all due to the adjustability as long as you dont mind a little extra work to dial them in. It also depends what spring and stut combo you are comparing with what coilovers. I understand that some coilovers are more stiff for track; my megan coils are street the series and are meant for street and light track use. They have been on for a year and a half and I find them very comfortable for DD and are set to a damping level close to the feel of OEM but still give me the stance i like + the increased handling. You cant get that kind of adjustability out of a set of springs and struts.

Alright so getting back to the question. For DD it would probably be easiest for strut and spring. Don t have to worry about adjusting them. A small drop (eibach sportline) won t cause any issues with driving over bumps/snow. If your car has some miles on it putting some fresh springs and struts is nice. I did the eibach proline with kyb struts and the struts couldn t handle that big of drop but I definatly didn t have any issues scraping the bottom of my car as listed above :S. As for coilovers (which I am now on) I enjoy them much more. I don t find they are any more soft and best of all I have no bounce. I can t speak for guys who are on Koni struts but I hear they still bounce. But once you go Koni with springs your 800+$ so your in coilover range. DD looking for a bit more? Go spring Strut
