The brake assist system operates in combination with the ABS. It was developed so that greater braking force can be generated even when little pressure is exerted on the brake pedal in an emergency situation. It assists female and senior drivers to get the emergency braking they need while activating the ABS under ordinary road conditions.

As shown in the graph, the same braking force is generated (with or without the BAS) when the pedal is engaged within the regular braking range. In the emergency braking range, however, greater braking force is generated (with the BAS).
* Pressure on brake pedal to generate "A"
amount of braking force.
- "B": Conventional brake system
- "C": BAS
In other words, the driver can exert less effort (equal to "B" - "C") to receive "A" braking force.

BAS can identify an emergency braking situation and will automatically initiate maximum brake pedal pressure for full braking power thereby reducing the braking distance.
