Great news everyone, I cleaned my engine last night and it looked great! I let it dry for 6 hours with the hood open and then turned it on. It was idling kind of rough so I turned it off and then let it sit overnight. next morning on the way to work, the car was running like total crap. The engine was shaking like crazy. I had to get to work so I turned it off and walked(I was an hour and a half late) When I got home I popped the hood and took a look. After listening around and feeling around I came to the conclusion that one of the cylinders just wasnt firing. I turned it off and checked the front three plugs(its the 2.7L) They were all coroded on the grounding sides. I figured no big deal I'll just clean them off and try it again. No good, it ran a little better but you could still hear it misfiring. I decided that maybe driving it might change it. I put it in reverse and when I let the clutch out it made this horrible grinding metal noise as the engine was put under some strain. almost like the sound of a rod smaking the inside of the cylinder walls. (just awsome) so here I am waiting for the dealership to open tomorrow to go spend a few thousand dollars probably to get it fixed. If you guys think its a good idea to clean your engine, think again. I used the DIY here and followed it step by step and now I probably just screwed up something real bad. I covered the filter, the coil packs, and the belts. I didnt even use a pressure washer to clean it, just water from the hose. anyway, I'm done venting, at least when I get the car back it will have a bunch of new **** on it =)

Sorry to hear. How old is your car and how often have you been cleaning it that way to have corrosion? Good luck hope it doesnt cost too much

I've read a few people who used the DIY for engine cleaning with no problems and a guy I work with used it to clean his engine bay (not a Tib) with no problems. My guess is it's something else and not the washing that messed it up.

I use gunk's engine cleaner and have no problems. I cover everything I think will cause problems and make sure the plug boots are seated good and then Im careful where I spray the water. It can be done safely, you just cant throw the hose in the engine compartment and pray it doesnt spray where you dont want it to.

Ouch bro, thats tough on the wallet. On the bright side if you did fu(k up your engine you can drop a built one in it.....but i doubt you will need that, It is probably a simple fix, don't stress.

I think it was just coincidence that you had problems with your engine after the cleaning. I cleaned mine according to the DIY and my car has been running fine since. I didn't bother to cover anything, but I also used a light spray with the water.

I tried cleaning it before with simple green and that didnt do anything for it, there was still stains on the upper plenum so then I tried the engine brite for newer engines, nada, then I tried the DIY post. Thats when the **** hit the fan.
