Got a tag for excessive noise yesterday in PA. Have Greddy EVO catback on for 18 months. Anybody have the specs on the noise emission from the EVO? PA law says can't modify exhaust if you exceed limits that PA established but so far can't find what the PA Db limits are. Emailed Greddy but no response yet. Searched threads but only found general info. No specific Db level found.

Thanks for any input.

§ 4523. Exhaust systems, mufflers and noise control.
(a) Compliance with established sound levels.--Every motor vehicle operated on a highway shall be constructed, equipped, maintained and operated so as not to exceed the sound level for the vehicle as prescribed in regulations promulgated by the department. The test procedures and instrumentation to be utilized shall also be established by regulation.

Scroll down to subchapter B. NOISE LIMITS.
According to that, under 35 mph, your exhaust can't exceed 88 Db, and above 35mph your exhaust cant exceed 92Db.

The testing procedure is as follows:
(b) Measurement distance. The noise limits established by this section shall be based on a distance of 50 feet from the center lane of travel within the speed limit specified in this section. Measurements at distances closer than 50 feet from the center of the lane of travel may be made. In such a case, the measuring device shall be so calibrated as to provide for measurements equivalent to the noise limit established by this section measured at 50 feet.

if i'm not mistaken...the greddy by itself should pass the decibel test. go to a station that can test for decibel levels...i don't know where...but police should have it if they can give tickets. if not, the ticket is not very valid

I think radio shack actually sells a portable DB meter on the cheap. Would be nice to have handy so you know ahead of time to tell the cop where he can shove the ticket imo =\

Pittsburgh area. Near the Irwin turnpike exchange. Found the PA Specs and the procedure that the cops must use. Very technical procedure. Naturally, he did not meet the procedure requirements, just used his ears and "judgement".

Same info I found, but thanks. Think the 78 and 84 Db would aply to the Tib since it is under 6000 lbs.

Big thing is the deatiled procedure required and the training that the cop must be certified for. Talked to a friend(ex PA Trooper) and he said wehn they passsed all the requirements in 1977 he quit writing citations for noise since there was no way for the cops to comply with the requirements.

Well called the PA Secretary of Transportation and they hooked me up with the Inspection Division. Talked to a Mgr., of Technical Support and he couldn't believe that a cop actually issued me a ticket under the current regulations. He started to tell me what they were, but I told him I have the vehicle code and the regulation that sets the limits and prescribes the qualifications, equipment needed, procedures, etc. Told him I had one question.

Where could I go in PA to have the Tib checked in accordance with the 157 regulation? He answered "I do not know." He said they only set the reg. and it is up to others to implement. Said he has received inquiries about setting up such a test site, but after people understand the complexity of the requirements noboiy pursues it. Reg has been on the books in PA since 1977!

Cops that are friends just laugh when I tell them. They can't believe that I got tagged! I'm gping to plead not guilty tomorrow and schedule a hearing! Also going to keep a copy of the code and the regulation in the Tib for future reference. Don't think I'll need him but a lawyer friend from work said if a lose at the 1st step he'll take it on appeal:)

Shame have to go thru all the hassle.

Wow man i feel for you...that's f*cking bullsh*t. I just got pulled over last night for a valid reason, tint on the front windows. But the cop was a d*ck about it and wrote me a ticket for my HEADLIGHTS. I have the Xtec 6000K's and he said that they are BLUE. I was like are you kidding me that's f*cking bs.
"When you look at them and they appear blue, then they are illegal. Are they DOT approved?"
"Yes officer they are. I spent 300 dollars on them, I made SURE that they are legal."
"Well the judge can decide that. Theyre BLUE."
The bulbs are ****ing white, and the light is ****ing white. Cops are jerkoffs.

But fight your ticket. 10 bux says you win.

Oh I remember when cops used to fight crime and help people, not ticket them for useless BS. Fight that ticket, because you will win!

Plus don't companies like Greddy and Mussa have their **** tested to make sure that they pass regulations? Correct me if I'm wrong...
