Going past 115mph

Quick noob-ish question, but the other day I decided to take a nice little drive out to El Centro, about 2 hours east of San Diego. Once you get through the mountains, there are plenty of places to let it all out, which I did a couple of times. I got up to about 110 easily enough, but then had to fight and claw my way up to 115, and I couldn't seem to get any higher than that.

I know our cars aren't the most aerodynamic in the world, but I thought a v6 in could easily push past 120mph. Does the fact that there was a mean crosswind (gusting 25-35mph according to the local weather) have anything to do with it, or have I simply reached the limit of what a bone-stock GTV6 can do?

Thanks in advance.

Is your an AUTO or stick, last week I hit 122 mph easily on the highway for the hell of it, and I could of went alot faster, but I slowed down...From what I hear the car top speed is like 138.6 or something like that, correct me if Im wrong....

If it is 138 stock that would take like a 10 mile stretch to get to it because our car stock gets to about 110 115 good but then u can sit there and watch the speedometer cause it doesnt look like its rising...i have a 5spd by the way...

and by the way i have never gone that fast before... :3_headsha

wrong. there's nothing wrong with ur car.

once u pass 110mph, esp. on a stock car....even worse with an auto...but once u pass 110, ur tib will pull slowly. it'll take much longer to go only slightly faster.

ofcourse, with the more mods u get, the less time it takes.

I hit 125 once, auto I4 with CAI. The fact the interstate was going slightly downhill helped, but I didn't have a lot of trouble getting there. Not something I plan on doing again though, not exactly safe ;)

I cruise to work doing 95-105 every morning on the capitol beltway... i've had cops pass me because they drive worse than i do. So far I've taken the car to 142 right here in front of college park and no it doesn't take 10 miles. If it takes a quareter mile and 15 seconds to get to 89mph, I know it took me no where near 10 to get to 142. All i've got are an intake/exhaust/mafterburner...

But this is all hypothetically speaking...right, insurance company?! :3_got-hoo

Holy crap you were going 110+ in 30 MPH gust crosswinds? Damn you have some big balls man.
haha, I didn't know it at the time. I found out when I got home, that's what it was gusting to. I was only like 15-20mph steady winds. It wasn't like I was dragging in a hurricane or anything. :)

Anyways, I have the '03 6-speed. Once I got up to 115 and the speedo just seemed to sit there, I only mashed the gas for about 10 seconds after that. I didn't so much chicken out as I didn't want the odd observer (read: cops) to see me blowing by the occasional traffic like they were standing still.

So anyway, I guess it's time to start modding. Hmm... need cash....

Well I 've gotten it up to 137 :3_loveit: with an auto v6. For a while though my car would not top 125, then I got an intake and well, its a coicidence I guess, but nonetheless weird.

strange... I have hit 125 in my 1.6 turbo with K&N CAI and SuperChip.

And as for our cars not having the best aerodynamics...I am unable to find the article again now (sorry), but I do recall reading a published article in either Car Magazine, AutoExpress, TopGear or Evo, which listed the drag efficiency of all cars on sale in the UK. The Tiburon beat the Audi TT, Chrysler Crossfire and 350z. The only similar shaped vehicle (not class just shape) was the Porsche 911 and Porsche Boxster.

:)
