i have an 08 gt and ive heard the problems with the CEL and i hate the sight of that thing. but i want headers has anyone found a way to get them on and 07-08 yet with out the CEL.
and ive searched for headers on ebay, are they worth it or not. ive been looking on here for answers but i want a direct answer as to whether ebay headers are even worth getting.

yeah i just hate to have it

any input on if i should go with ebay headers?

should i get the cat too or no?

thanks but ive already read though that thread

thought about it when i get a reflash...

if i were you i would go for, but only if your not concerned with your cel's and don't mind swapping back to stock for emissions, if you have those down there in the swampland. otherwise be happy with your catback and maybe remove that big 3rd cat/install highflow cat

I think you're out of options at this point. As far as ebay headers go, it depends on which one's. I've heard some have fitment issues. But like Doomsday said, SSA should be fine (and ultimately, the better)

Otherwise, i'd personally go with DC sports

How can I get rid of the CEL?

With some of the older tibs (06 and older) you may not get a CEL with headers because the emissions sytems (ECU and O2 sensors) are not as sensative. If you do, installing a high flow cat under the car and relocating the secondary O2 sensors behind it may get rid of this issue.

If you have an 07-08 the problem is much more of a pain to deal with. There is no chance of not getting a CEL with the 07-08 models. If you add headers on these models you will get a CEL. Getting rid of it is a pain as well. A normal high flow cat will not do the job, the emissions sytems are far too sensitive. You will need to buy a high end cat (random Technologies for instance) and relocate the O2 senosrs behind that and even then its not a guarantee.

The reason for no guarantee is that although those higher end cats may get rid of the ineffiency codes they may give you a code for O2 sensor heated circuit or O2 slow response. The reason for these is because the O2 sensors also signal the ECU as to how fast the cat heats up. If the new cat heats up way out of range that the stock cats would have, the ECU will aslo throw a CEL. The slow response is just as it sounds, a response back to the ECU from the O2 sensor that is slower than what stock would be.

The best bet with an 07-08 is not have headers in a state that does an OBD2 inspection or just be prepared to take them off every year.

I was told that a reflash to the 05-06 ecu will pretty much get rid of a good chance of the CEL, but will having an 05-06 ecu effect the obd2? will they notice that I have an 08 with a different year ecu, and it is an issue?

#20 ·
i already have catback and i was planning on gettin the ssav2 and putting them on myself

#22 ·
ECU year isn't even looked at. Just VIN.

#25 ·
and how did you manage that? lol

#24 ·
yep 07-08 are rough with the cel's....only way to get rid of em i know is ecu swap. or standalone...getting rid of obd-ii completely

very curious......1000 post ....been here since 06 and finally hit 1000 posts.....im a troll lol

They have threads on this topic. No I am not a wizard .... but heres a magic thread you may just want to read

Its not impossible was my point, not trying to brag. Just saying you are wrong in saying it is impossible because there are people who have already done it.

He's running a reflash from an 05, if you read my sticky about the o2 header dilemma, you'll see that changes things. And I'm not trying to be a dick, but, I asked the shop who's working on your car how they got rid of the CEL and they gave me a generic vague response of what metals are found in an o2 sensor. And I have a suspicion, since all the pics you've posted have your car apart, that the car hasn't gone many miles (if any) since your headers were installed. It takes 50-100 miles for the catalyst inefficiency codes to come up.

Really I'm not trying to be argumentative, just realistic. The shop claimed that your car passes NYS inspection with your setup, unless all your cycles are complete, which takes a bit of driving and you're running an ecu with your VIN programmed in it, you will not pass NYS inspection. I inquired about how they accomplished this and they could not answer the question or just didn't want to. Other members have came in and posted that they found a magical solution and it turned out they didn't drive their cars enough and came back after about a week of daily driving and had the CEL pop up.

I'd hate to see you spending all the money you did and trust what they said only to get 100 miles out of their shop and find out they were incorrect. Or have other members think you came up with a solution, run out and buy headers and waste money only to find out the claim was incorrect. If you found a solution, great, please share the info with the community so we can mod our cars further.

Your not being a dick at all :D This topic is probably the biggest mod killer for our cars, but I didn't lie when I said we have a full NY inspectable car , stock ecu. The Turbo headers have no miles on them just yet, but we have run this turbo kit for over 15,000 miles on modified manifolds without throwing codes for the headers. There is no secret answer, there is no magic plug. We sat in the driver and passenger seat for at least 20-30 hours total tuning and skewing with the FIC. I am one of the lucky ones I guess but just keep reading and testing. I've been working on this problem since the beginning of 2010 And rather than ignoring the info you were given, look into that because that could be the reason why I'm CEL free. Keep trying tho thats the only way.

Hello all. A few weeks ago I ordered headers on ebay and had fitment issues with a flange hitting the oil pan and the alternator not installing because of the rear header pipe in the way. They came in a DNA MOTORING box. I sent them back and got a full refund. Then I ordered a set of SSAutochrome v2 headers off their website which I received today. They also came in the same type of box with DNA MOTORING. I tried installing those headers and they have the exact same fitment issues. BTW, the engine I am trying to install these on is on an engine stand so there is plenty of space to work. Anyway, i was thinking maybe it was a shipping error and they sent me the v1's by mistake but I'm not entirely sure. I had sent them an e-mail about an hour ago describing the problem and what can be done to resolve the issue. I just dont know what to think now because they looked identical to the set I bought on ebay. The only difference would have been $150 shipped on ebay and $235 shipped from SSAutochrome. Has anyone else had issues similar or identical to what I am going through and if so what did you do to correct it. I have an 03 Tib GT V6. I just want them to fit. Please shed some light on this situation, anyone. Thanks in Advance.

Grind the flange where it hits the oil pan ~1/8" and dent the header to make the alternator fit.

Welcome to eBay headers for the V6.
