When I turn the key, it makes the turnover sound but will not fire. It was low on gas but I used a gascan to add a bunch to be sure. I tried jump starting it w/ my work van, resetting the battery, f/k with the FOB.

What do I look for ?

Nothing other than cutting the drivers seatbelt wires. But that was 4 days ago. No CEL's.

Vacuum leak can cause a non-start ? It's not in my yard so I can't go try stuff randomly like normal :(

Are you hearing a clicking from the starter, or are you hearing the engine turning over?

Battery could be too dead for a jump (like faus03), could be the ring gears on your flywheel giving out (happened to me), could be a lot of things depending on the sounds that your hearing.

Yes, that sound it makes before the car actually goes on, it's making that sound. the turnover sound

Its still possible that it could be corrosion. Nothing in a car takes as much power as the starter motor... so a lot of things can still work even if your engine doesn't have enough power to turn over

since the battery is corroding, should I just go buy a new one right now ?

I can't on a quick basis as the car is not here.

If the battery is dead, would the lights not work? All lights/stereo works.

great. just what I need in -15 snowing weather. access to my back 3 plugs. i so want to sell this car right now.

07 or used? I'm betting that your battery is just dying. You know, modern vehicles require a lot of electricity and an engine's alternator is not designed to re-charge a battery with 50% or less of its potential, only to keep a full battery full.

I had a problem like this when i had an accent, it turned out being the crank sensor. i hope thats not the case here.

I'm told is the crank sensor is off position it won't start either ... ?? ....
I said that back on page 2, if that sensor is bad the car wont start, im not sure if you have a auto or standard, if you have a standard then DO NOT TRY POP STARTING IT!! that would mess up alot!

if your sensor is bad then you might have to check you timing belt to.
If you had to ask me that should be whats wrong, like i said i had an accent and i had the same thing happen but i was stupid and tried pop starting it. :( not good, thats why i have my tibby now.

^ Not sure about that. If that were true, your fuel pump would be starved of fuel if you had under 5 gallons in your tank at any time (which I do regularly [college student]).

And unless your car actually ran out of fuel while you were driving and it dyed because of it; your fuel system should still be primed with fuel.

Just wondering if you ran out of gas, when you said that you were low on gas? That could clog injectors. Also, an easy thing to try, have a friend move your throttle cables when you try to start the car. If youre getting to much or to little fuel, it wont start, but it will try. Wouldnt hurt to try :3_shiny:

wow -15 degree weather... and im sure ur not just hearing a clicking, ur hearing like the car actually turn over once but like its dying? ya meng thats the battery, try and get a battery with some retardedly high CCA also, to avoid stickyness dont use coke. baking soda mixed with water will remove corrosion so quickly, it like falls off

just another thought... culd be frozen fuel lines.. when i was driving the monte carlo around it started up and then just bogged down and died after u cleaned the sheet of ice of all the windows. it did not start up till it got warmer outside, if thisss is the problem use some heet

The car won't start even while trying to jumpstart it. Wouldn't this void out the corrosion issue?

Just got back. no dice.

I pushed the car across to a Petrocan, put in almost half tank, gave'r a try, no go.
Fuel pump makes a noise, fuses are in tact.

I left it in the parkinglot of a Certiguard mechanic shop and will call them in the morning.

Any other idea's ?

K. That shop called. They can't figure it out.

They confirmed it's not getting any spark. :3_confuse :3_confuse

Does the upper manifold have to be removed for this or can it be tested at the coil ?

I was thinking .... what if the crank sensor is bad ? That'l stop is from sparking, is that a hard job to replace?
