Ok, im guessing this is better suited for here vs. the racing section...

...im in a bit of a pickle here...

...with everyone having the big movement in just getting 15" rims and putting DRs on them...

...it makes me wonder, is it worth getting 15" rims if the width is basically gonna suck when comparing to...16" or 17" rims and DRs with wider tires?

basically are the gains from having a smaller wheel negligable when having slightly bigger wheel that is much wider?

thanks.

I'm going to bet that the 15in drag radials are still pretty wide. even if they are 15 x 6.5 (maybe even 6) you could still mount 215s on them.

thats the best answer i can come up with for you.

comparing a 7" wide street tire to a 6" wide drag radial is similar to comparing a size 7 tennis shoe against a size 6 cleat for straight line acceleration on the footlball field....

*Edit*
And it isn't really that big of a movement. As others on this site have said, using 15 inch wheels with drag radials has been around long before the GK Tib was ever designed. It has been a very practical drag setup for decades, well.. beyond 10 to 15 years ago is was just 15 inch rims with slicks. It is a very cost effective way to both increase your grip off the line and your final drive ratio without having to muck with your transmission. The overall gain in final gear ratio is very similar to the common mod that Mustang guys use in changing their rear differential gears to effectively change their overall gear ratio for better "short distance" and "low speed" acceleration.

Increasing your grip off of the line and lowering your overall gear ratio has traditionally been the mod to do when grip really becomes an issue and your car isn't really geared correctly for a top speed just above what you would be trapping with in the quarter mile.

yea i no that, but then when thinking of how big muscle guys go for the 11-13 inch wide DRs/slicks...

...then i was thinking if it pertained to us to...u no?

..so basically u say the 15's are better then?

and they are 225/50/R15's...15x6.5
