How often do you change your oil?

I change mine about every 6,000 km to 8,000 km. I also use fully synthetic oil. I don't choose a specific brand, I just tell them to put their best synthetic in....that being said, what are your preferences or suggestions?

I don't change my own oil either as its faster and not much more for them to do it, and I get them to check all other fluid levels and what not as I am often rushed and a lot of my KMs are highway KMs and I need it done ASAP before I hit the highway.

I change mine every 6,000-7,000 miles (9,000-11,000km)

Every 3000 miles, Castrol full synthetic, K&N oil filter, I do a lot of city driving, stop and go traffic. Don't ever believe that crap that you don't need to change your oil for 7500 to 15000 miles. When oil is dirty, it is dirty, plain and simple.

Oil doesn't break down that easily and changing it too often you are just wasting money. Unless during that 3000 miles you have severe driving conditions.

Every 6000 km, no more, no less. That's what my manual says!
Manual says 3K, so I do it every 3K with Castrol full synthetic and an OEM filter. Though its not as big of a deal if you go a bit over if you're using full synthetic. Just follow the manual. My mother's highlander says every $5K, so I do it every $5K. The 3K rule is not universal, and I definitely wouldn't say its safe to buy into the new 10K mile oil change thing. Just do what the manual says.
If you're going to change oil that often you're better off just running conventional oil. One of the big benefits of synthetic oil is last much longer than conventional oil. You could change your oil filter at say 5k and reuse the oil another 5k no problem.

The manual says 7,500 miles or 12,000km

Yeah usually when I change my oil, it's a bit dirty. I'm not really hesitant, I don't do a perfect 6000km it's usually more so around the 7000-8000 area.

I'm guessing city driving lowers its life more? Most of my KMs are highway. I do a ton of highway driving. Out of my 85,000km, well, I bought it at 23,000km....so I've probably put a good 40,000 on highway.
I just did an oil system flush as well for the first time the last time i got my oil changed. Figured it'd be good to keep it extra clean.

I didn't believe you so I checked my own manual. I don't know why I'd thought the manual says every 3K. Well, I stand corrected.

Don't get me wrong, I completely understand that synthetic oil doesn't break down like conventional oil. I like using synthetic oil because of the properties and the fact that it doesn't break down under extreme conditions, but you still cannot keep dirt out of the oil no matter what you do. Synthetic oil will get just as dirty and just as fast as conventional oil. Just think about it, the cleaner the oil, the better it is for moving parts. If you don't have the dirt and grime clinging to the moving parts such as bearings, valves, HLA's, etc., won't the parts last longer and not wear as fast? Just think about it, some of us have sunk $10,000 or more into our cars and you want to complain about $35 or $40 for oil and a filter, what is wrong with this picture.

That's what the oil filter is for, but you shouldn't have dirt in your engine. The engines produces blow-by from the rings, and these spent gases contain carbon which makes the oil turn darker. Actually compared to conventional oil the internals come out very clean with synthetic oil over conventional oil even changed at twice the mileage. Worst case scenario from driving beyond oil change recommendations you'll get carbon build up and the engine will wear faster.

Did you know that if you're transmission ever starts knocking you can just fill it with sawdust and the noise goes away? :)

Well I'm glad I made this thread. I learned a little something. Think I might start changing around the 9,500 mark.
Apparently it is to be changed every 7,500 miles or 12,000 km, how ever I still think 12,000 is still too much. I think I will start looking at the oil at around 8000 and see how it looks. But it's still usually fairly dirty.

I know that here in SoCal almost every place (dealer or lube shop) highly recommends an oil change at 3500 miles due to "extreme conditions". It always amused me that they would label any car under these "extreme conditions" before any information is mentioned about how the vehicle is actually used...

Currently im changing oil every 7500 miles. I use Mobil 1 10w30
I could probably stretch it a bit more but i do too much stop and go, bumper to bumpe grid lock in permanent heat
The 3000 mile is really and old practice that should be scrapped altogether , modern engines have so high tolerances and run so clean and efficient, oil formulas have advanced too, that changing oil so often doesnt bring any benefit, in fact with most moder high performance engines recommind synthetic oil, drain intervals of 10,000 miles or more will be more and more common

I've always used Penzoil full synthetic, some people tend to believe Penzoil sucks for keeping engine temps down. I have had no problems changing at every 4,000 miles. Sadly up until now I have been using like Bosch oil filters, the ticking is annoying so I'm going to switch over to an oem next time I go by the stealership. Everyone I talk to seems to think it's hysterical when I tell them a non Hyundai oil filter causes engine ticking.....
