only problem with painting the outside is the paint is eventually gonna scratch up or chip if hit right by road debris...I reccommend painting the bezels and or corners...they at least are protected by the clear headlight lense....good luck

Well, then we better put big plastic covering over our cars because all the other paint will chip!

The look of just painting the bezels is TOTALLY different.

are you saying you have no chips in your paint from road debris....our cars take a beating from road debris...I know painting the bezels is different from what you are talking about...I was just trying to suggest an alternative that might last a bit longer for obvious reasons

I see, but why does the back rim have to be bigger? If they have slicks, then obviously they are serious and want to shave off as much time as possible. Wouldn't having a rim that's 2-3 inches bigger and heavier add on even the tiniest amount of time?

Umm, no, what wouldn't make anysense.

its a drag racer, it has lightweight 16" Volk TE37's mounted on drag slicks. On the rear it has the daily use 18" Volk GT-C's. When drag racing you don't want lots of rotational mass on the front wheels, so using smaller lightweight wheels does that for ya. Plus there isn't many drag slicks that come in 18" sizes.

yes it would.

high-speed dragsters always habe huge rear tires - and yes, for reasons that you explained, but also for better acceleration.

the larger the rear tire (on rwd) the more distance the car will cover each time the rear axle makes one rotation.

imagine if the car had tic-tac sized rear tires.....they would spin like crazy and only cover a very small distance. But if it had tires with like a 1m circumference, then it would travel 1m with every complete rotation of the axel.

having a large rear tire will increase weight, but also distance covered - so you need to figure out what is the optimum weight/distance for your specific vehicle.

Im not going to get into this much more than that - but its true. I dont want this turning into a scientific debate as in the intake idea thread....

Josh, Solo... you're both right. We'll leave it at that.
Josh is right on about rwd dragsters (real dragsters) running large rear slicks.
Basically you guys are talking about 2 sides of the exact same thing.
And since the guy is racing a fwd car, the discussion about rwd becomes useless.

Go to a drag strip, see how many rwd drag cars have wheels bigger then 16".

i'm thinking the best way to get that look on the lights would be to pull the headlights apart and paint them from the inside. probably be easier and you wouldnt have to worry about chipping.

just mask off the parts you dont want painted. just another idea.
