Key Stuck In ACC Won't Come Out Ignition

Can shift it from D R P N without pushing in brake. I think someone said they removed the shifting column and took out some kind of little pin inside and it solved that. My mechanic said it needs a solenoid or something, when you push in brake it should make a small click sound he said and key should come right out, and it's a security issue or something. Idk, it doesn't even light up any more.

Thoughts?

Start taking apart the steering column and take pictures.

shake wheel back and forth really hard....pull out key

so you can get it into P or N but you cant get the key out?

put it in park and move the wheel from side to side using a fair amount of force while attempting to remove the key. the steering wheel seems to be locked.

dont forget to push the key in towards the colum too while you you shake the wheel

I've found the only thing to work is to shift it from Drive to Park hard and it will let the key release. Sometimes it just comes right out.

Something may have broke in the key cylinder. Very easy to replace. Take cover off then find the screw or tab that holds the cylinder. Undo tab or screw and slide out cylinder. Put new one in. DONE. Good Luck !
