First car was an 81 Honda Civic 5 speed. I learned rather quickly as I drove it everywhere and always took the long way around. :3_winkthu

If you are just learning how to drive a manual, I would say the Tib is not the easiest. My step son tried driving my tib (with me in the car) last summer and had a tough time getting it to start smooth...without jerking or killing it.

Once you get the hang of it...it's a lot of fun.

i had an escort zx2...it had a short throw shifter and a racing clutch which probably wasn't the best combination to try an learn how to drive manual on. It proly took me a few weeks to get it where it was consistantly smooth

I learned on an 87 jetta that had broken bushing. Lots of fun shifting that beast =)
Oh and not to mention VW's genius idea of placing reverse right next to first gear...

As of right now i'm still testing the waters with my stage 4. I've got it down so my passengers don't notice too much from when it was stock, but every now and then from a start i get trigger happy and just spin the tires LOL

I learned on a sponge // Mazda Protoge. Well a sponge to the evo. I can't even feather the clutch in my car or it dies. I have to pop the gas at the right time. Haha.. But um about 4 days till I was proficient.

i was lucky, as soon as i could reach the pedals i was driving stick. my dad felt it was necessary that i know how to drive in an emergency because he has a heart condition and we kinda lived in the middle of nowhere at the time. we also tended to take road trips somewhat often. i was driving decent stick on the rural back roads by the time i was about 14. i learned how to downshift quickly, but i didnt really know how to rev-match or heel&toe until i started driving professionally...

the tib has an awful, inconsistent piece of crap for a clutch. it has no feel whatsoever, like sticking your foot in mashed potatoes, LOL. the only good thing about it is that the flywheel is so heavy that it doesnt lose inertia quickly, making rev-matching pretty easy... you can do it at a leisurely pace, even. LOL.

My Tib was a dream after learning how to drive on a 92 Isuzu Rodeo and driving it for 12 years. lol It took me about a day to get the main shifting pattern down on the Rodeo but took about a week on 1st with hills. D@mn talk about embarrasing. lol The stock clutch on the Tib was easy but the Stg 3 can be a b!t(h. I get satisfaction when I watch the guys at the dealership try to drive her though. Can't tell you how many times I've had to move her myself or have the tech that did all the mods on her drive her back. Too funny.

Oh and we chicks have one more issue you guys don't have to deal with...with every change of heel height on our shoes we have to practically relean the clutch...lol

The new coupe is supposed to be drive by wire btw. Gonna be interesting. Never drove one

i tried learning on a 04 civic and it was hard as hell, for some reason it seems MUCH easier to learn stick on a domestic V8, ie. a mustang or a camaro, took me 2 days on my old 88 IROC camaro =]...... yet its still hard to drive my tib lol

It's an easy car to drive if it is stock.
omg no there not..... its rocket sience compared to a stang or and older honda lol..... i would put an sti stock with about where the evo VIII is.....

it took me a dayish to be good enough to drive around town probly a month before a was good good it was probly less but my car was in the shop getting the trans, clutch and flywheel replaced because of the asshat that owned it before me and the dealership lieing to us when we bought it.

i still have the occasionaly screw up now and then but thats when im lazy and dont pay any attention to whats going on.

im really shocked at some of these people saying it took one hour. one hour to what? not stall every time you let the clutch out?

i learned on my first car: supra! man all that damn power and a pretty on/off clutch made it hard for me to learn easily. i think when all was said and done it took me a week to not stall except for a rare moment. the first day or two went pretty awful. before i was using the supra i got my first lessons in my brother's car. oh boy he didnt look happy whenever the gears grinded lol.

total of about 8 hours over 2 days before I attempted to drive anywhere farther than 5 minutes away.

ive had my car for a lil while now and i still suck at driving it. also, make sure u dont use ur clutch to stop u from rolling on a hill. it is the easiest way but pretty much the worst way, best tip i learned

i think a bunch of people are going to come in here and say "oh it was easy. took me no time."
10 minutes lol

Took about a week when I first started, like everyone does at some point there were a few stalls and a few smoking tires. But I learned on an 87 F-150 with a V8 4 speed so 1st gear didn't require any gas lol.

Once I got the Tib it was an all new learning experience, I'd always had stick shift trucks and 2 automatic cars. The Sonoma I had was very very tight, almost clicked into gear so there was no such thing as a fast shift. The Tiburon has, in comparison, has a much smoother quicker shift and an extra gear so it took a little while to get accustomed to it.

30 min to learn and was ok for a week and then became really good at it

I'm not surprised, though. I've personally seen people who are/simply has more mechanical aptitude than others. This one girl I knew was doing very well on a stick transmission in only about 20 minutes. Some people just "get it" much faster.
