I recently posted a thread about an unfortuate situation at the track in March...a misshift while running the 1/4 mile. 85 mph and accidently dropped it into 2nd rather than 4th gear. Now, keep in mind that this is facinating for me (not the careless shifting part...) as I have never done anything even close to rebuilding a motor. I am the the guy who paid a shop $40 to install a CAI when I first bought my Tib in 2007; now I have pulled the heads off the car with the guided help of my neighbor who is a retired mechanic. With the heads off; it is clear to see the results of floating the valves during my recent mishap. All 6 pistons have the same marks where the valves came in contact with them when the motor revved to over 8K rpm. I have been able to smooth down these damages areas - I am fortunate that there was no other damage to the pistons, rings or the cylinder walls. Here are a couple of photos of pistons with 'divots' on top.
And...here is the engine bay as it was earlier today.
With the assumption that I have at least 12 valves to be replaced in addition to the $300 that it will cost to have the heads gone thru...I decided to buy the Stage I heads instead. Hopefully, they will be here this week.
I am picking up new head gaskets at the dealer tomorrow and purchased a new timing belt this weekend as well.
