Hi to all,

I would like to ask, is it possible to put Hyundai SP-IV in my tranny which is SP-III ATF. Here in our area there is no SP-III ATF even the dealer and some mechanic recommend AC Delco ATF-III. My car is 2003 Hyundai coupe. Appreciate your suggestion and recomendation. thanks!

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO !!!

the SP4 is just for the A6 series transmissions in the YF sonata, MD/UD elantra etc. 6 speed autos 2011+ only !!

Honestly- buy the hyundai stuff. I can tell you over the years the amount of transmissions ive had to replace both under warranty and customer pay due to being flushed with "universal synthetic/dextron etc NOTHING works. Some will be ok but cause a lazy shift. If you have a leak and you need to top off theres nothing wrong with adding a quart or two of that universal asian **** they sell but trust me when i tell you huundai automatic trans, espacially the older ones like the 2wd santa fe trans (what is in a v6 tib) do not like any other fluids.

Im sure you can get some via mailorder? It only takes 4-5 quarts drain/fill. If you are using a flush machine id say 8-12 to get the dipstick reading clean fluid. Is there a mitsubishi dealer nearby? Thier sp3 is the closest thing, if not the same stuff.

Thanks for the info dude. Anyway I already check in the other dealers like kia and Mitsu but the SP III is not available. And by the way i am the 3rd owner of this tib and the previous owner said he put the ATF III in this tib and as of now the car is already a year now from me.

so true. Its a pain in the butt to find it if you are having troubles, but you SHOULD go with what is recommended. Using the universal may work for a short time, but what you save in time/effort/money with it you will make up the same time/money/effort with either rebuilding the trans or replacing it. PLEASE get the proper fluids and make your hyundai happy :)

I just dont understand how dealers there cant stock it we have barrels of it seeing every hyundai from1988-2012 in the usa calls for it. Sp4 is for the new six speed auto in the new sonatas, accent, elantra, and santa fes and tuceons. Basically all the current bodystyles are the only things that take sp4. The genesis take ZF lifeguard thats 100 bucks a quart. Other than those exceptions 95% of the hyundais on the rd in usa take spIII
