My damn sunroof shade broke again last night!!!! This is like the 4th time!

I called Hyundai to try to get them to order the parts so I don't have to drive there, have them order it, and then drive back to have them fix it. But, again, they said I have to come in so they can see what they need to order.

That really pisses me off, since they are like 30 miles away and this has happened 4 times already, so they know what they need to order.

I wish they would just get metal clips for the shade instead of using the same cheap/weak plastic ones that they know they have problems with.

Since this is my 4th or 5th time getting it fixed, I was thinking of maybe turning it in as a lemon, but I don't know if I want to reinstall my stock headers, HU, Intake, don't have my stock exhaust, so that can't be put back....lol.

AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Mine is broken too, so I just leave it open. If I ever need anything else done to the car Ill have them fix it then otherwise no biggy, I would have it open more or less all the time anyway.

Mine broke several times too but fortunately after the 5th or 6th time to the dealer, they just replaced everything!! The track, shade, motor, every damn thing. Now if I can only solve the rattles coming from the roof liner since it has been taken apart and put back together so many times.

Call me retarded but...what exactly is there on the shade that can break? Is it not just a felt-covered piece of the roof lining? I close and open mine all the time with no problems, and can't ever foresee having a problem. There's not exactly any moving parts or anything....or is mine already broken? lol

so far mine has broken 3 times so far and it got stuck in the middle the 3rd time so i couldnt even open my sunroof. since its so annoying anyway i just riped it out of its place and i have in in my house. u dont need it anyway. it does suck though that we have to bring the car in so they know what peieces to order, or they should just fix it right the first time

The part that breaks is the clips that when you open the glass roof, the clips hold on to the roof so it opens with the glass. That breaks... and the shade is on a track.. which is cheap and can bend if the shade gets stuck... once the shade is stuck... the roof get stuck.

Even if your sunshade breaks 1000 times, that still won't make your car a lemon. The problem has to affect the driveability or safety of the car. You can still drive it just fine and safe with a broken sunshade
I'm actually dealing with a lawyer about my car for the sunroof. I must have had the sunroof motor replaced at least 4 times.I also had a problem with the paint a couple times. My car was in the shop at least 8 or 10 times in the first year I had it. They can't classify it as a lemon because it doesn't compromise safety but it's considered a breach of warranty. The way I see it, I paid extra to have a sunroof. It should work when I want it to. I had an arbitration hearing back in Nov. or Dec. and was awarded $6500 plus attorney's fees. Of course Hyundai is appealing. Now I have to go back to court sometime in May or June to try and get my money. My point is that it may seem minor to them but it's a hassle for you. Don't be afraid to fight them. You never know what could happen.

Also, it wasn't until about the 4th or 5th time I had it in for the sunroof, that they finally gave me a copy of the TSB on how to reprogram it when it would get stuck.

Luckily, I've never had a problem with the motor, its just those plastic POS clips they use on the shade. I'm sure they could fabricate metal ones that would work just fine.

The thing about the shade is that it will block the sun from fading your leather seats. If it wasn't for that, I would just tell them to leave it out.

Funny thing is, ever since the last time I got it fixed, I've opened the shade by hand then the sunroof normally. Then when I was making those clips of my headers, my friend (who was taping) went to turn on the dome light and hit the sunroof instead, causing it to open over top of the shade. I tried so hard not to get it broken again, and the first time it gets opend with the shade closed, it breaks.

But I was thinking, are the sante fe, Sonata, elantra, ect.....having problems with their's too? What are their clips made out of?

Well, time to go to Webtech.

Same thing here. I ended up having the whole sunshade assembly replaced, and now I just leave it open because I'm afraid it will break again. But now it rattles like crazy, drives me nuts. :2_sad:

Don't get me wrong. I absolutely understand what you are saying. It is a major inconvenience if anything breaks even once, but multiple times can get rediculous, but the point I made still stands that something like the sunshade or paint or even the sunroof motor, no matter how many times they break, none of those things are important enough to qualify the car as a lemon.

the word of advice given me by the dealership was open your shade before opening your sunroof....peeps are too lazy to do that....makes sense to me and I have had no problems since then....
How the hell can you accept that advice? I would have told him to go f*uck himself. The roof was DESIGNED to open the shade when the glass opens. You got some c*ock smoker telling you not to use it as it was intended so it doesn't brake? Ok... so this is how it works, but I wouldn't do it because it will break.

Oh well.

I just kept bringing it back until it finally worked. They kept paying for it... so eventually they have to say to themselves... lets fix this right so this d*ick doesn't come back again... Now it works. Whether I open the shade first or not.

:)

The Pennsylvania Lemon Law applies to new cars that suffer a nonconformity; a defect or condition, which substantially impairs the use, value or safety; that cannot be repaired after three attempts by an authorized manufacturer's dealership. This nonconformity must first occur within the first 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. The Pennsylvania Lemon Law also applies to vehicles that are in the shop for repair thirty (30) or more calendar days during the first year.

I'm sure this is the same in every state. The problem w/ my car fell under breach of warranty because it impaired the use of part of the car and it was repainted twice within 6 months. The mechanics had their 3 chances to repair it and it kept breaking. I called up a lemon law attorney, described my problem, and they accepted my case. You don't pay a dime, the manufacture pays for everything. Just because the car isn't a "lemon" by legal terms, you're still entitled to something under breach of warranty. We all paid around $19-20,000 for our BRAND NEW cars. The warranty is there for a "just in case". It shouldn't have to be used over and over for the same problem on a new car.

It could be a loose screw or nut. Mine did that too. I took it back and it was a loose screw. They tightened it up and it was fine after that.

True... I am sure something is loose... however, the plastics holding up the roof liner suck... so every time they take it down... they usually break a clip or two. One of the times they repaired the roof, I was driving it home and the back trim piece holding up the back of the liner just fell off. When I looked at it, it was GLUED up. Obviously they replaced it but I am afraid if they take it down again to make sure it is all tight, they will break something again and I will be back again, or driving around with parts glued up again.

Hm, thats an idea, I think I am going to mention when I go back in that it rattles, because it drives me nuts. :3_saai: And I always opened my sunshade first before opening the window and mine still broke. :3_confuse
