ive thought about that before. just a convertible instead. itd be a LOT of work.. and you could just put that money into a trans am that already has the T top.. haha

 

yea i kno, but i wouldnt want a convertible, id want what the supra has, just the top that pops off. can someone please photoshop that?

 

You would have to add a heck of alot of bracing to the top of the car to make up for the loss of structural integrity. Very costly.

what these guys said... Basically, your car would crush in on itself. It wouldn't be legal to drive, and you wasted a lot of money just to die in the end...

There is something wrong...it's a Tib and a dead horse idea. Targa and RWD Tibs....never gonna happen.

 

yeah the eclipse looked good. tib however didnt. maybe t tops with the middle connected? or if the windsheild went up and back alittle more idk. i would love T tops but that tib in the pic looked horrible

This has been discussed exhaustively. Do a search for "Targa Top" and you'll see lengthy threads on it.

Suffice it to say, if you have the money, it can be done - but the cost of reinforcing the frame and to do it properly is enormous.

You basically would need to weld in a complete cage inside the car before doing this.

Like MIke said, it just doesn't look right. The length of the hatch and the overall dimensions on the Tib really make it not look right.

 

LOL, targa hatchback... the reason it looks weird is because the tib isnt really a traditional coupe, per-se. its a swoopy hatchback. the rear comes up for headroom for the rear passengers.

 

yea it really dosent look right but do have to say targa tops come in VERY handy if need to rescue your buddy off the side of a semi. lol

yep it would fold up like a shark taco. alot of braceing would be needed

I really don't think it looks any worse than any other targa car that has done it. I did a chop of my car just to see, and it really doesn't look that bad I think:

But, as mentioned there would probably be some serious issues with structural integrity after taking that much of the roof out.
