Trunk Switch Fix

So awhile back i noticed my trunk switch (the little switch on the drivers door to release the trunk) was starting to slowly work less and less until one day it just decided to stop all together... So instead of paying who knows how much at a dealership i decided to investigate it. When i got it open i noticed the contacts on the switch were rather dirty.. So if your having trouble with your switch then follow these instructions

Follow this DIY if

1. Your trunk switch sometimes works
2. Your trunk switch never works
3. Your trunk switch is sketchy and sometimes goes off when you barely touch it or close your door.

Step 1:

Unless your really talented.. or you've had your switch off before, your going to want to remove the door trim to get behind the switch and push. Follow the diy guide for removing your door panel if you don't know how. Because I'm lazy, i decided to just pull the switch out without removing the trim.

After you get the trim taken off, unplug the switch. Attempt to pop it out of the door panel. It takes a lot of pressure and i believe there are some heavy duty clips holding it in.

Step 2:

Notice the two clips on the side of the switch. Try to stick a screwdriver and pop each side off.

Step 3:

CAREFULLY open the switch. There are springs that will fly when you open it if your not careful so be alert.

Step 4:

Notice the 4 total contacts on the switch, get a pencil eraser and go to town cleaning the heads. You probably wont get the marks all off but give it a good scrubbing.

Step 5:

If you were having trouble with the switch randomly going off or going off very easily, then check the two springs on the side. Make sure they arnt worn down and squished, you can pull on them a little to restore tension. (I took the springs out in the picture)

Step 6:

Replace all your parts and put the switch back together. Test it and if it works, put it back in. If it doesn't work, you can try cleaning it some more.

If you like my DIY guides please leave me positive rep. Thanks!

Re: DIY: Trunk Switch Fix

Hi All, I have done this DIY before reading this and it still didnt work for me.
Recently, a friend helped dismantle the trunk release mechanism and tested the wires.
It seems that the problem with my trunk release issue was a bad earth wire connecting to the trunk release mechanism. There are 2 wires connecting to the trunk release mechanism at the back. The wire transmitting power to the trunk release mechanism was fine, only the earth wire seems to work/not working sometimes.
We have tested by tapping the earth wire to metal parts of the trunk and the quick release worked everytime.
When the earth wire is connected to the release mechanism, sometimes it work, sometimes it doesnt.

So in case after cleaning the quick release switch and it does work for you, please check the wires at the trunk release mechanism.

Re: DIY: Trunk Switch Fix

While I was in the door to replace the speakers, I by passed the switch and wired the two wires together and then accessed the wires in the kick panel and put a momentary switch on it. Later I will install a relay so I can pop the trunk with my aftermarket alarm fob.
