ya the only time it'll lock the wheels is in the rain.......but its kinda fun to tease ur friends and yank it when the roads are dry. :3_yes:

The e-brake is self adjusting. Drive your car in reverse and hit the brakes (the regular brakes, not the e-brake). Do that a few times and it should be fine. If not, you'll have to jack up the car. Find the e-brake cable. Towards the back you'll find a metal piece on the cable with nuts on it. Adjust those nuts to tighten/loosen it. After you do any adjustments, be sure to do the reverse/brake thing a few times. Then test to make sure that the e-brake disengages completely and grips tightly.

just to let ya'll know, im not talking about i dont know what the ebrake is, im talking about like u said, u like to tease ur friends, what do u mean
lol oh ok.... they mean that they'll drive along and just yank the ebrake. Scares your passengers but also screws up your tires and increases wear on your ebrake (which is probably why most people in this thread are having problems. lol).

well, it doesnt lock the tires........so no wear there. and as far as wearing the brake, well idk if it does b/c for all the times that i did do it, its the same. but it is likely that the previous owners already wore it out, lol. tanelk, what were saying is that when your moving yank the e brake and on most cars it will lock the tires, on most of ours, it doesnt. so as your lifting the e-brake, the passengers are like "wtf are you doing!!!!" because they think it will lock the tires and we will lose control. try it to one of ur friends, but first do it slowly to make sure it doesnt lock the tires but without the person so they dont know. if it doesnt give it a tug with one of ur friends in the car.

I have the same problem and now its got me worried. I am leaving the army soon to go home and one of the tests they do is lock the parking brake and see if it drives. My doesnt stop sh*t , and i havent an idea of how to fix it either. I dont ever touch the damn thing unless im parking. Any help on how to fix it would be great.......

have you tried to put it on while stopped and then drive? i dont think the car will go anywhere.. it may not stop the car while its moving, but mine holds the car in place while its stopped.. you just have to make sure its up all the way.. no more clicks left, lol.

guys, is a weak ebrake actually abnormal? it only engages the REAR brakes right? the rear brakes dont do much braking normally. mine is weak too, but i think its normal; works great for drifting.
1. i have had cars that will lock the rear brakes with the ebrake within a couple of clicks..
2. sliding around a fwd car with the ebrake is not drifting, lol.

well i can do that and the tires will deff roll and go. it goes sorta hard but it deff no matter how hard i pull even using both hands to yank it up, will the tires not roll...

The Tib has 4-wheel disc brakes. The rear brakes do not adjust that way. That method is only for DRUM brakes.

If your hand brake is not tight enough then you may need new rear pads.

If the rear pads are fine then you need to adjust the cable:

1. Block the front wheels, then raise the rear of the vehicle and make sure it is securely supported.
2. Make sure the parking brake arm on the rear brake caliper contacts the brake caliper pin.
3. Pull the parking brake lever up one click.
4. Remove the console.
5. Tighten the adjusting nut until the parking brakes drag slightly when the rear wheels are turned.
6. Release the parking brake lever fully, and check that parking brakes do not drag when the rear wheels are turned. Readjust if necessary.
7. Make sure that the parking brakes are fully applied when the parking brake lever is pulled up fully.
8. Reinstall the console.

Yeah, I yank that thing through the roof sometimes and it still will move. I'll try and do the re-adjustment procedure soon , hopefully that will help. If not ill have to b*tch slap that guy who inspects the car for shipping...lol

I can move with my Ebrake on, fairly easily. I probably do need rear pads though, but I'd still like the Ebrake to be a little stronger. My friends eclipse will lock the tires up no problem.

Hey guys,

When I bought my tib the ebrake was barely working. It was a problem seeing my car is a 5spd, I had to put the car in gear to keep it in place. Wasn't very safe, especially on hills and stuff! I finally got it fixed, the mechanic had to rebuild the rear calipers, and put on new pads. cost about $300.

Not sure about you guys. Maybe you just have to tighten the e-brake wire.

Just to see what would happen I put my ebrake all the way up and tried driving (On the way to get new pads so it didn't matter) and the wheels were spinning just as if it wasn't on but if you are parked it does hold the car from rolling. Oh and i have been driving with a buddy behind me and i was yankin the ebrake and only one tire was locking up. Anyone know if that is normal?

As the late Mitch Hedberg always said, "I'm always on the road, and I drive rental cars. Sometimes I don't know what's going on with the car, and I'll drive for ten miles with the emergency brake on. That doesn't say a lot for me, but it doesn't say a lot for the emergency brake. What kind of emergency is this? I need to not stop now. It's not really an emergency brake, it's an emergency make-the-car-smell-funny lever."

Thats how I feel about emergency breaks. In my last car, I never noticed it was up until the smell.

Two things. First, it is a parking brake, not an emergency brake. On any car, they are only intended to keep the car from rolling while parked in neutral, not for racing or drifing. Mine works fine on my 04. Second, if it is brand spanking new, why not take it to the dealer for adjustment??? :3_yes:
