Just wanted to see who else has a Tiburon with very high mileage (150k+) and see how they are fairing. Mine currently has 171k miles and seems to be running strong. It's been in the family since day one so I know the history and it's been well-maintained and not abused. Other than routine and scheduled maintenance the only repairs have been replacing a refrigerant line and the turn signal bcm repair. It's an auto, so no worries with the clutch. The only issue I curently have is a leaky valve cover and it's a slow leak. This is the first Hyundai I've owned and I am thoroughly impressed with realiability and longevity of this car.

So feel free to post any success stories or issues you have with your higher milage tib. I hope many of you have had similar success.

I have a I have an 05 Tiburon, GT manual transmission and mine has 247,000 miles and still runs well. Had the car for 6 to 7 years. Replaced front and rear valve cover gaskets new plugs new wires and put in a cold air intake. Getting ready to sell it now.

Mine has 142k miles and runs terrifically. No CEL, ticks, noises, nothing. Auto tranny shifts great.

My 03 Tib GT w/ a 6speed has 206K. I purchased it earlier this year on Ebay with a locked up motor. Though the motor was bad the body and interior was still in excellent shape. I paid $1600 for the car and have spent roughly $2500 on all new parts (used engine with 32K on it, clutchmasters clutch, chromoly flywheel, clutch master and slave cylinders, 4 kyb struts including mounts, tie-rods, ball joints, axles, entire fuel pump assembly, battery and many other various parts like sensors, seals, gaskets, tranny oil, motor oil, wipers.etc.)

For me it was a bit of a gamble considing how many miles were on the car. It ended up working out because it allowed me to buy the parts a little at a time. I simply was unable to afford to buy a nicer, already running Tib in one lump sum of cash. I recently got it running and it runs great. I'm still working out a few minor things (vibration/rubbing issues from prob bad wheel bearing or alignment). But once I get that all figured out I'm hoping I should be good to go for awhile with all the new parts. No car payment either :)

As today I have a bit over 67K miles and the car is running strong if not better than ever. Of course I have religiously followed maintenance schedules , replaced worm/damaged parts with OEM or superior quality spares and not abused th car

When people see my car they are really suprised about the mileage. Im specially proud of my steering wheel.
I have the OEM black leather with read stitiching wheel and there is not even the slightest crack , tear or discoloration, the leather is still soft and spongy!! The feat is even more remarkable considering that my car sleeps on the street.....6 continuous year of rain and sun!

Great to hear all the positve responses. I plan on keeping my tib for a long time. It was my wife's first car and now that I'm driving it everyday I've fallen in love with it too. I'm planning on installing KYB struts and springs with a mild drop to replace my worn-out struts. No other mods planned unless something breaks and gives me an opportunity to upgrade.

thats good to hear :) sounds like your tib is reliable as mine. i need to replace my struts/springs as well. i recommend on getting coilovers since they last longer, are more durable and overall are a better item(s) than lowering springs..

you might be happy with the look of your tib but you should look into upgrading the front end with the 05/06 facelift bumper & headlights. it will really give your tib a modern look

its nice to hear all of these success stories with high mileage on their cars. i only have about 62k on the clock but when i purchased the car i took out a big fat loan for it. needless to say im stuck with this car for a long long time, which is fine with me, but im not so worried anymore after reading this. maakes me feel a little more secure when i start hitting those high miles like you guys have. i think these cars are reliable as long as you take care of them, abuse them and they'll probably break on you.

I've personally owned 2 Tiburons, first one was a 03' 4 cylinder (had 235,000 miles. Seriously.) and I put a new clutch in it and it was soo nice. really reliable. wouldnt have hesitated to drive it cross country. I liked the car so much, I sold it to upgrade to a GT v6. Which has 128,000 miles right now. (ive put 10k miles on it) and Not a single problem! All ive done is put gas in it, and some aftermarket wheels/nittos. Got lucky cause its already on coilovers, aem cai, I/H/E, Short shift kit, Throttle body, Ecu..., Stage 2or3? clutch.

I have replace just about everything EXCEPT the engine. Still going strong, regular oil changes w/ Royal Purple and K&N Filters.

The rust is what is going to be the end of the car before the motor goes, drive it all yr round, so the winters here with all the salt on the roads kills it.

edit.. Everything held together until I hit 300,000km all down hill from there.

I think we have a winner!. Oh wait, that's in km's. But still...

Mine's pushing 174k now and I just had to replace the harmonic balancer. It decided to separate into two pieces. Go figure, as soon as I brag about the reliabily of the Tib something breaks. I still can't complain though. By far the most reliable car I've had.

Almost at 100,000 miles, she is going strong as ever. I've had it almost a year now, and all of the problems have been my own fault! Lol
Oh, and I did the clutch so I wouldn't have to do it during the school year... There were plastic bits coming out of the flywheel for some reason.... Hmm...

Update:

Just hit 184k miles. Replaced the radiator a couple of weeks back. And the ABS light has been on for awhile now. The Tib's been good to me considering I've put 70,000 miles on it the past two years. I'm working closer to home now so I won't be putting a ridiculous amount of miles on it. I'm hoping to get a couple more years out of it.
