Re: Ask a Hyundai Technicain!

I have a question. I have an 04 V6, Automatic. My transmission feels like its surging. Its not violenty shaking the car, but I can feel it in the steering wheel, and drivetrain. It is when I am accelerating moderately and heavily, not when accelerating slowly. It is hard to explain, and about 3-4 months ago, the Hyundai dealer put there HI-SCAN on my computer and it didn't say anything was wrong with the Trans. It is boggling me as to what it could be. I feel like my car is slower and less responsive than other tibs I have driven that were also V6, and automatics. Any thoughts?

Re: Ask a Hyundai Technicain!

I have a few for you.. well 4....

1. why is it when i go to start my car when its cold and if i go to start it right away without letting a few of the chimes past it wont turn over right away?

2. why do some brands of HID's make the gauges go dead on the tiburon for a second when you turn the HID's on, even if you are using a relay pack?

3. why is it when you come to a brief stop, NOT a FULL STOP with the tiburon V6 and then hit the gas the car doesnt down shift right away and it kinda hesitates when you hit the gas to go.

4. why is my damn interior drivers side handle so squeaky when i open the door.. when i put WD-40 on the inside parts the noise went away and came back 20 mins later.

thanks,
Rob. :)

Are you AUTO?
I'M Auto and my does same thing:3_frown:
But i also notice that other car does same as well. My guess is gear timimg in auto plus "TCM"programing from a factory.

Re: Ask a Hyundai Technicain!

Ok, this is a dumbass question. I installed cupholder LED's. I touched a wire I shouldn't have and blew a fuse. I had no insturment lights. You would assume the fuse that blew would be the one marked cluster. WRONG> It was the r/tail light fuse. Now, splain to me what the hell that fuse has to do with the dash lights please. Makes no sense to me man.

Re: Ask a Hyundai Technicain!

I've got one for you chase

Why does my speedo die and revert to 0 when im driving down the road?

And its done this pre-boost mind you.
check the Speed sensor (mounted on the transmission behind the T.B) possibly during installation of your Turbo, the wire clip might not be connected fully, maybe wires melted OR internal defect,
mind you since you DONT have an auto IT WONT be a imput or output speed sensor (only for automatics) the sensor is a plastic gear that looks like a upside down christmas tree, its white plastic....
Chase
Ask a tech in your area to inspect on the side.
this is the only reason why its doing this (if it is as you stated "somtimes"

Re: Ask a Hyundai Technicain!

i should have specified, its an auto.

thats what i figured as well but I have no idea how to inspect these and was trying to avoid another dealership visit.... last time they told me it was due to my *burnt* tranny fluid.... never fixed a thing.

Re: Ask a Hyundai Technicain!

well pull out the pidstick for the tranny, look at the fluid level and color, also smell it, does it look brown/black, does it smell burnt, is it low, if its not red, (not pink not rown deep red colour) then it needs a flush, have you ever done one, i suggest you do one if its needed, ALWAYS use OEM auto fluid, itll mess it up if you dont....

Re: Ask a Hyundai Technicain!

Ok, so sometimes when I start to pull of, the car hesitates (like its misfireing) but then slams into gear and goes. It almost feels like a neutral drop in an auto, besides the fact that its a 6sp SE. It mostely does it in 1st or maybe 2nd when im starting to drive or downshifted to go thru a turn then accelerate thru the turn. Any suggestions? I have a b&m short shifter and shifter bushings but I dont think that would do it.EDIT: I have 18,000 miles on it and its mostely highway with atlittle bit of stop and go and a very little bit of racing

i have no idea, at first it thought you had an auto which meant bad news, but then i read on and find you have a standard, i guess do less of whtever is making it do the noise, maybe coasting through the turn and not acclerating, alot of things i can diagnose is mearly cause i can (hear, see, smell and feel my way through it, kinda hard to do on a keyboard.
please understand....
Chase
i suggest you take it to somone that drives with you and you try to diagnose the trouble....

Chase,

The one thing you are going to have to learn first and foremost in this business, info is not free. It is how we make our money. Suggestions are one thing, but troubleshooting is another. Sidejobs are tricky, make sure you dont get caught up in them.

Re: Ask a Hyundai Technicain!

So stay the Fvck outta my threads then..... You always pop in sh!t that has nothing to do with you in the first place.... like the Labmixz thread. You've met me at the dealer meet in bradenton before.

You will learn what i'm talking about, i've been at dealers for 4 years now, not much but enough to know some things.

edit- we do help out here, i know HYTECH always does. I come around once n a few when i'm absolutely sure i know the answer to the problem.

i'm the guy in the middle of the three...... http://www.newtiburon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92987

Re: Ask a Hyundai Technicain!

Hey Josh, in looking at the pics in the thread you posted above, I should tell you that
you don't have to remove the subframe when doing a clutch job. I'm not an auto tech or a
mechanic but here's my tip. There is no way I could lift that subframe back up if I dropped it,
you know how heavy it is.

Just take out 3 of the corner bolts holding it up and loosen the 4th a little. The frame will hang down low enough to slide the tranny out through the driver side wheel well.

Re: Ask a Hyundai Technicain!

I'm a starting out toyota tech so feel free to pm me questions about your toyotas if any of you have them, If I cant figure it out then I can ask the master tech on my team and see what he thinks about it. shrkbyte has helped me out with my car more then once. I have a question for you too man... on my drive back to ga from il my car would loose rpms when I let off the gas.. not normal rpm loss but fast, almost like the engine was shutting off. but the weird thing was that it wasnt shutting off. then when I hit the gas it would delay a bit and then slam into gear again. this is on a 6spd. ever seen something like this? I was also going about 100mph and had alot of stuff in the car(everything I own pretty much) then after I got home and unloaded the car, it didnt really happen anymore. the problem just dissapeared. what do you make of it though?

you were hauling *** and had the car weighted down. that was the problem. notice it went away when it was unloaded?

Re: Ask a Hyundai Technicain!

I got the subframe down and up with no problem (its about knowing how to do it). Instead of fighting the job trying to fit it between a small space (which i havent seen done w/out messing something up), i'd rather do it right the first time and take my time making sure its right.

I slid it out without any problem. There's plenty of space with the frame hanging down. It's not about a right or wrong way, it's about what works. When I saw the dealership do it, They had 2 techs hold it up and one has to thread the bolts back in.

The other advantage I found was that I could rest the tranny on the subframe when I was trying
to line up the splines No need for a tranny jack which can be awkward when you're not using a
lift.

Did you lift the subframe back up and secure it by yourself? How do you do it?

Re: Ask a Hyundai Technicain!

Hey Chase, How about giving me a helping hand.

The past 2 days my car has stalled while i was in reverse while applying the brake.

Re: Ask a Hyundai Technicain!

no, i had help from those two guys. its very easy and makes for a clean install. Its the way i was taught and its the way the manual suggests. If you got it there, good for you. But taking out a few bolts is not that much of a problem for me.
