Hey everyone,

What do you guys think about drive in automatic car wash places? Like Autobell, or gas stations? Are they safe for my tibs paint job? Its winter time now and its to cold to go out and wash it myself =[

try using a 300 grit sand paper covered sponge ;]

Be careful of the license plate though. It hangs so low on the Tib the brushes like to rip it off. We have an automatic car wash at our dealership, and we offer free car washes for life if you buy a car here, plus with every service. They are supposed to take them off of the Tib's before going through, but that doesn't happen all the time. We've had to buy several license plate frames.

i take mine through the automatic ones every once in a while

you can also check with your insurance, some companies like GEICO will waive your deductible if your car is damaged from a automatic car wash (assuming you have comprehensive coverage). in which case theres no reason not to

I've used an automatic maybe twice, just don't care for the job it does. Misses too many spots and the wheels never get clean enough. I use the ones where you pull in and have the wand with the selector panel. And I never use the brush in those because people never clean them off after scrubbing. Sure way to scratch the paint.

I'm glad this thread came up. I was planning on taking my Tib to one of those automatic washes for the first time today. I'd do it myself, but, I mean look at my sig, it's cold here in Canada haha. I'm gonna have to go look for some other place that isn't automatic/hands-free I guess, if they really are that crappy. I especially want my wheels clean, I'm still rolling on the 17s in winter:3_winkthu

I work at a car wash part time on weekends as a second job...gotta love free carwashes and hugely discounted wax jobs. I ran mine through yesterday and I never have a problem. It's a full service, so there are employees to hand dry the car, clean/dust the inside. The guys who pressure wash the wheels and front end at the front of the wash usually pressure wash the noodles (lol, whatever they're called) and all the brushes in the car wash each day, so there's no mud or dirt tracking.

I also have silver, so swirls are much less noticeable. When I had my black tib, I always handwashed it. Swirls can get out of hand on that paint job if you don't buff it every couple months.

Regarding the license plate, yeah, our wash likes to bend the metal front license plates if they hang over the edge of the bumper. I have one of those plastic tinted covers with screws on the bottom holes to keep it from rattling, on my license and it's always made it out unscathed.

The ones that actually make contact with your car don't do half bad if you wipe it down afterwards. Its just that some of them can scratch the hell out of your car if the brushes are always dirty from muddy bubba trucks going through them.

Touchless car washes and pressure washing your car at those DIY places with the bays don't do ANYTHING to remove all the surface dirt. Waste of your money.

i'm gonna go out on a limb here...and agree 100%. (gasp)

if you're gonna do the DIY bay thingy, make sure to scrub with the brush, otherwise it IS a total waste of time and money.

I found a new place here in Philly where the guys scrub it first, then i go through the autowash. All i do now is dry her off and TireWet the wheels and WD40 the rims. All for 10 bucks (tip included).

Not a bad deal at all. WD40 on your rims??

Yeah the foaming brush at the DIY bays works well...if its a newer soft brush.

There's no way I'm gonna let some ***** in a bikini give me swirl marks with her **** all over my car. I wont go to any automatic car wash place, my swirls are bad enough before they use all their dirty *** equipment on my car. I get a little lazy over the winter when it comes to washing but hit up my detailer for a little TLC/Paint correction in the spring. This year i might just buy a buffer and learn how to do it myself.

I agree, although hyundai paint sucks im still not going through an automated car wash anytime

with my CF hood and the amount of big lifted dirty muddy trucks around here going through im just asking for scratchtastic results.

I have no complains about washing my tib, shoot i wash it 3 times every week and go through soap like 2x per month

Wash your car don't be lazy or leave it dirty instead of those things.

I've tried auto car washes and they've all sucked so far. So now, I handwash my car every week, if possible. Pretty much all Meguiar stuff with lots of microfibers to dry. Lately, I've been following up the car wash with the Meguiair Ultimate Quick Detailer. It works well.

Only TWO other people are allowed to touch my car during a car wash--my GF and my pro-level detailing friend (not real pro).

I'm with Wag.

Transgression of events with chicks in bikini's washing cars:

One chick spray hose at other chick. Other chick pick up sponge...throw at first chick, fall on ground. First chick pick sponge back up, scrub car.

Croat....OF ALL PEOPLE ON THESE BOARDS...how can you NOT tell that's ladies underwear and not a BATHING SUIT?

And yes they probably already make microfiber bikini BATHING SUITS.
