Ok, so went to exchange xmas stuff today and went to get back into car and it wouldnt start! Not even turning over, just 2 different sounding clicks, I thought ok its cold so maybe battery? all 3 gauges say 12.5 to 13.8 volts also went to oreillys and battery is good, started looking at the Starter now, all wires and plugs seem good. Is there a way to test the starter without paying 185$ for a new one? The only way it will start at the moment is a clutch drop, wich I dont want to be doing all the time, anyone else have a problem like this? All fuses are good, could it be the 30amp 12v relay labeled START under the hood? Anything helps guys it 2 days after christmas didnt want to have to fix my car! ughhhh :3_frusty:

Just click, or the machine-gun click-click-click-click-click

Try swapping relays around? I'm not sure how many 30a relays we have, but that's the easy way to check that. I really wanted to say battery, but if you had it checked.... Are the battery -> starter connections all solid too?

This is usually due to a poor ground connection of the car battery. For some reason the Tiburon likes to corrode its negative battery terminal and doesn't give the engine substantial grounding for the starter motor. The clicking you hear is the solinoid of the starter working, however the start itself will not turn over unless it has a good connection to ground.

Do the following.

1: Take off bot the negative and positive battery terminal
2: Using a wire brush or something abrasive (steel wool) and clean both the battery terminals, and the connectors
3: Reconnect to the battery

The car should start up right away for you. If it doesn't take the Grounding Strap found at the back of the engine connecting to the cars firewall and do the same to clean it up. If the problem persists let us know. I find I need to clean my terminals around once a month. A very common issue with the Tiburon not starting.

The clicking you hear IS the starter solinoid working, but like I mentioned above the started isn't getting the required ground due to corrosion. Clean up those terminals & you should be on your way =D If you do require a new starter (they VERY RARELY fail on the Tib) I have one sitting in my basement I bought when I had this exact same issue i'd sell for a good price. Needless to say it didn't need to be installed.

do you get power when you turn the key to on? if so you might also want to try the safety switch under the clutch pedal, that was my problem a while ago when my car wouldnt start

so i know im bumping a very old thread but today my wife called me and said that the car wouldnt start for her..... she said if she holds the key turned and then pumps the clutch it will start .... or if she lets the clutch out pushes it back in it will start after doing it two or three times? i was wondering would that be due to the Clutch Pedal Ignition Lock Switch
here is the part i looked up at autozone

your starter is dying and it will need to be replaced, you can rebuild it aswell.
one or more of the armatures of commutators have burnt out and when you hit it it moves the commutator to a live one and that allows you to start the car, eventually another one will fail and another one then you will not be able to start your car.

yes i had this very same problem. if when you try and start the car nothing happens no clicking or anything the clutch safety switch can be the culprit. it happened to me, very very annoying, cheap and easy fix tho

I know this thread is old, but it recently flooded where I live due to storms. During the flood I only hit one really big puddle, my car did not stall out. When I got home I parked the car. When I went to work the following night my check engine light came on. It did not blink, just stayed on. When I started the car the next morning after I had got off work the check engine light was still on. I went home parked the car. Both times when I drove the car while the check engine light was on I did not feel a decline in power, or the car operate out of the norm. When I woke up and went to work the following night, the car started giving me starting issues. I would just click. This was a single click, not a multiple click. I can start the car if I keep attempting to turn it over it will eventually start. I have no clue where to start for replacing parts... any suggestions? Could this be a case that the parts still may have moisture in them after 48 hours?

First, make a new thread.
Then let the help flood in
