So I have an 08 tiburon 4 banger, but I’m not found of the taillights, so I’ve decided to trade taillights with someone but he claims I would need the bumper to not have a gap

The opposite. You'd need the other bumper for the hole to be large enough to make them fit. The 03-06 lights were larger than the 07/08

I know there is a DIY for swapping later taillights into an earlier Tib (may be a 05/06 into 04 or earlier)...basically bang sheetmetal to get the newer taillight into an older body....not sure on the last models swapping into an older chassis/bumper cover.
I know late Tib models for headlights was.....hood, fenders, lights as well as some other wiring/bits..

I vaguely remember somebody was selling a conversion kit a while back to switch the taillights from a 07-08 FL2 to an earlier FL1. Edit: Found it again.
It was Tuscanicustoms and they still sell them... expensive for two little blanks.
Your buddy could buy something like this to convert to your lights, but you can't put the 05-06 lights in a FL2 since they're bigger. If you like those so much, I'd just trade cars or cover it with clear red vinyl... not worth hacking it up.
