Check engine P0031

I installed headers this week. Although everything is hooked up and the car runs fine (I put 130 miles on it today), I have a Check Engine light and an error code of P0031. I have no other errors (yet).

From my reading and searching here, I have found the following information:

P0031 Heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) 1, bank 1, heater control – circuit low Wiring short to ground, HO2S, ECM

Possible causes:
1. Related fuse is blown or missing
2. Open or short to ground in power supply or control harness
3. Contact resistance in connectors
4. Faulty oxygen sensor

Here are my questions:

  1. I have four O2 sensors: two front, and two back. What is "bank 1"?
  2. Assuming that I know which sensors belong to bank 1, how do I determine which of the two O2 sensors is causing the error?
  3. Assuming that I determine which sensor is causing the error, how do I determine whether the sensor is bad, or if it is a fuse or something?

Thank you for your assistance.

I believe bank 1 is passenger side, sensor 1 is the one nearest the front of the car. You can test the sensor with a propane torch (when it is out of the car), but I can't remember the exact numbers/sequence. If you search, you should be able to find them.

That's the easiest one to get to, fortunately. I just double-checked and made sure it was plugged in.

Where would I find its fuse?

Also, I have read that the Tiburon is extremely finicky about its O2 sensors, and will throw errors if common aftermarket O2 sensors are used. If I do need to buy a new sensor, what sensor should I buy?
