ok so i have an 05 tib gt and i am looking to to some sort of forced induction. Problem is that i am also a college student and pay my own tuition so im strapped for cash. I was wondering if anyone new the difference between the eaton m90 blower that was used on the ford thunderbird and the eaton mp90 that ngm uses in their kits. The reason why i am asking is that i have the opportunity to purchase this blower for cheap and i really don't want to spend an upwards of 3 grand on ngm's kit. If anyone knows of any help it would be greatly appreciated.

thanks, tibbyguyGT

The only thing that I could come up with is that the MP90 is a newer/more efficient version of the older M90 built with newer technology and such. It may or may not work but someone else can chime in seems how i'm not very F/I savy..............yet

I'm pretty sure the S/C's from the thunderbird, ford lightning and cobra are all 8 rib pulleys, so that would be a minor thing that would have to be changed (to a 6 rib). Just picking up the blower, yeah you would still need some type of UIM or a shop to modify the original. If I were you, I would really just keep checking the for sale section as there are tonnes of people selling off their alpine s/c's. I just saw a Stage 2 Intercooled Alpine sell for only 1700 =)

its not just about the blower, the ngm kit has a completly custom intake manifold thats built for the blower, and many other things that go with it, you cant just slap a blower on your car and call it a day.

The Eaton M90 is/was supplied by Eaton Mfr Co to OE Car builders like Ford. The MP90 is a Magnuson piece with a custom blower case and drive mechanism that uses Eaton rotors. They are definitely not the same blower as you've found out. By the time you got that Ford blower installed on your Tib you will spend more in parts and tuning than buying an off the shelf kit.

k guys thanks for the advice i had the opportunity to purchase this blower for 150 bucks thats why i was asking. i really want some sort of forced induction on my ride though i just don't know if a supercharger or turbo is best i recently saw daniels tib in mod mag and it was nuts i wish mine could put out that kind of power.

this is allot of useful info, but could anyone that has a Supercharger provide me with the length of the "snout" piece i am also building a custom setup, i already have about 85% of the parts minus the blower so now i'm shopping for a Blower and i need to know either the whole length from end to end or just the snout end, any info would help, thanks

the length of the blower snout will depend on what supercharger case you end up using, and manifold. You could use the same size snout on a whipple or an mp62, and the bolt hole pattern and outlet location would completely be off with respect to the manifold you are using.

So, first I would figure out exactly what supercharger you want to use, then get the prints for it with specs on outlet location, depth, etc, then all you have to do is mock up the manifold you want to use, and measure where the pulley centerline etc needs to be in relation to the stock pulleys.

It is simple geometry, but to ask what length snout we are using might not help unless you are using say an ngm manifold, or something that already has the dimensions laid out to build off of.

well, the data for the mp90 is on magnuson's website, you just have to use the alpine manifold and compare mounting flanges and measurements to see where the mp90 case will end up, then just get a snout the proper length.

Oh, and why do an mp90? go for the eaton tvs 1620 or w/e. you will prob. want a built motor w/ at least pistons. the mp90 flows 1.5L/rev, and the 1620 is 1.6, you get the idea.

You'll also want to make sure you have proper firewall clearance as well.

There is a bypass valve on my friends m90 in his gtp, I never really looked at the one on the ford super coupe. Also the mp90 is a better blower than the m90, much more efficent.

Yea, there's a bunch of Bonneville S/C's for sale, usually for like $100 on cragslist. But the problem is placement, that and there's no intake made specifically for the M90 blower, so you'll need to fabricate one which would cost anywhere between $200 if you do it yourself, to about $600 to get a user to do it for you, or $1200 to get a shop to fabricate an intake. After you get the intake S@$T taken care of, work on making a custom bypass valve for the M90 blower, yet another B@$%^. So it might take 2k to setup an m90 blower on a 2.7l Delta engine, or just buy an alpine kit for $2k like one of the users already said.

True, and you can make the alpine slightly more efficent and you dont need a build your engine in most cases.

ah well good to know, i thought the MP90 was a direct bolt on, just by looking at the mounting flange, but i have never seen one yet in person, i have seen the MP62 in person and it seems to be slightly smaller, so that is why i am also thinking of going twin turbo

lucky for me i just got a FREE 2.7 with a blown main bearing, but the engine is complete and nothing else it wrong, since the engine out in the garage, i can work on it while it's out of the car, and keep driving my Tib, so i have a few decisions to make:3_coool:
