The shop picked up my Tib 10 days ago to swap the engine and install the new stage 3 clutch. i'm also having the timing belt replaced on the new engine and fresh oil.

How long does it take to do this job and what kind of money would i be looking at?
I'm beginning to get a little bent. They told me it would be 900 for the swap plus the extras. Seems high. What do you think?

only 900 to swap a engine and also labor on clutch and timing belt. i would be gratefull myself.

i was talking to a shop and they were quoting around 1200 for labor alone on a swap... and also they were saying around a week and 1/2 for it to be done.

To do a clutch is not much more effort since they are doing an engine swap already, the TB is also not a lot more time if the engine is already out.
To me, $900 for labor sounds pretty good.

As to how long, depends on if they have done a similar swap before, a couple days working on it should be about it.

Just the labor on the engine swap was 900. The new engine has 44580 on it and is setting there. The timing belt and clutch install and oil change are extra. This shop charged me 80 dollars to come 12 miles to get the car. Another shop said he would of done the swap for 500. Made me wonder. The other shop has my 99 convert able camero. That engine will come out the bottom. He is charging 900 to pull and put in next engine

OK, got the call to pick it up. 1261.12. I supplied new stage 3 clutch, they supplied new timing belt and fresh oil change. And labor of course..almost forgot the 12 mile tow
Sounds like a pretty good deal. I got charged right under a grand for a LSD install. Granted it was the dealership that did it. Took them 1.5 weeks to get the job done. Also, I had scheduled the appointment 2 weeks in advance. That is a long and drawn out story haha.

That's a great price for all of that work! Also, that labor should add up to about 3-4 days tops.

You got a killer deal on the Camaro job. I've done that myself before using nothing but cherry pickers and blocks. Dropped the subframe and all. PITA.

For the Tib though, I guess it depends on how busy they are but, if actively working on it, it shouldn't take more than a couple days. 3 at most.

Think you miss understood. The shop that has my camero said he would of charged 500 to do the tiburon. The camero looks like it will be getting a rebuild. Hard to find a low mileage 3.8 rear wheel drive that will fit. So if we do rebuild, forged internals and maybe a turbo later..lol

The tib is running great. Dang, got to get used to that clutch..

I hear something like a air leak in the cab when i let off the gas. I'm thinking the new clutch. Any thoughts?

Before I'd drop any money on the 3.8, I believe I would invest in an LS1 with the rearend and front subframe. Pricey but in stock form, it would take twice as much to get that out of the v6 (Edit: If you could and it may cost way more than that.). Just my 2c.

And yeah, guess I did misunderstand lol. I should've known that was unrealistic.

Edit, again: I misread. I meant that $900 was a good price. Most places charge $500+ just to change spark plugs.

by the time i swap everything out, i'd be looking at 4 thousand.
The 3,8 will give me 26 mpg and with a turbo, 350 hp and still keep my fuel mileage.
