Interior Hatchback Panel

On my 2005 Tiburon, I'm trying to take the plastic off the hatchback to connect the 3rd brake light. It feels like they made it to never come off again. Theres 1 screw and you would think it pops right off, oh no. I don't know how to get it to come off without breaking it. Why couldn't they just put like 8 screws and be done? Anyone have any tips on removing this thing?

Yes, it's tough to remove. Keep in mind, the plastic has hardened over time, thus making it worse.
You just need to get an edge up & pull, IIRC it's towards the center of the car (across the glass) to release the pins going into the metal of the hatch.

Theres one screw inside the "grab handle" part, one each on the sides holding in the little clips where the parcel shelf strings attach, and possibly some inside the little cover piece right in the center? (Can't remember, someone confirm this)

After that it is just clips, but it's much easier if you have some trim removal tools (nylon or plastic) to get up under there. The first time you take it off it's pretty difficult, but start at the bottom by the latch and go towards the window slightly.

Did you take the little center cover out to see if there's anything in there? I can't remember if there is.

Other than that, just keep pulling. And it kind of comes away from the panel towards the rear of the car, not directly away from the hatch panel if that makes sense.
