hey guys. On friday i started my car after work and could barely get it into reverse. I eventually did and then went to first and had the same problem. Once i got it into first i tried to pull away and it started bucking like crazy until it engaged. I then went for second and had to force it in.

the drive in the morning was completely normal, no problems shifting at all. As it sits now I can drive the car but i reallly have to slam it into gears. I have a cm stg 3 kit thats been in the car for about 7500 miles. any ideas?

i had this same issue and just got my car back. my flywheel was fried gear oil was old and clutch was bad. in our car the slave cylinder is **** causing the the clutch to not dissengage all the way. you may need a new flywheel. try bleeding the clutch and changing your gear oil first because the flywheel isnt too cheap.

Oem tob and everything was properly lubricated? It's possible that the tob came off of the fork or pressure plate.

To troubleshoot, try this.
Engine off, try to shift into any gear, how is it?

If it's "easy", than you are likely not totally disengaging the clutch & with the engine running it's hard to get into gear (trans input shaft is still spinning).

Causes of not disengaging the clutch:
Air in clutch system (master or slave....rebleed)
Failing clutch master or slave cylinder
Failing TO bearing
Friction plate issue

Do the easy stuff 1st, then go from there.

If it's hard to get into gear even with the engine off, maybe change the trans lube. Not sure if the Tib's are picky in what you use. I know Subaru MT's are fussy on the lube you use as they have pissy synchros.

I can go through all gears when its off. Once its turned on its like hitting a wall with the shifter.

The clutch, fw and tob are all clutchmasters and have about 5000 miles on them. This problem just suddenly happened, which is what puzzles me
Based on your new info, then it's either:
-Clutch hydraulics (master cylinder, slave cylinder, hose, air)
-Clutch

As stated before, try the easy stuff first. Everything else requires a trans pull.

I've never done a Tib clutch, but reading here (in multiple threads) indicates to ONLY use a OEM TOB.:dunno:

Okay so a little update. I had the car towed to a shop in an area and the guy spoke to me today. He said he believes its a bad clutch. I asked him how he could tell if the car is not going into gear, he said it went into gear no problem... now im just confused.

im going to have the car either towed or driven back to my house and work it out from there, i just dont really trust these guys.

Im just trying to figure out what would cause the trans to not be able to go into gear suddenly and then be able to be put into gear no problem. Again, this problem came completely out of the blue?????

went into gear no problem with engine on or off?

I haven't experienced it myself yet, but I've read of others bending their clutch fork during some spirited driving. Unfortunately, that requires disassembly to find out.

05, wish we were a little closer, I could help out.

As asked, did the shop get it into gear engine on or off?

They said they got it into gear no problem with the engine on. He said they pulled it into and out of the garage under its own power.

I'm going to the shop tomorrow to get it back home.
Sorta sucks.....I guess I would try it out when you go to pick it up, if you have issues, then let the shop see it as well.
If it works, then we'll have to see what happens over time.

Soooo i drove the car back from the shop and it was as if nothing even happened. It shifts perfectly. The shop did nothing, they said i needed a new clutch cuz it kept stalling wen they were movin it. Im assuming they couldnt get used to the stg 3 clutch.

The day before i took it to the shop i did the slave cylinder mod and bled the system, im guessing their was air in the system and caused the problem.

Well, glad it's working, thanks for the update.

Let us know if it happens again.

good call on having it towed home dont get ****ed around by a sleezy shop. they will take it apart. charge you out the ass on labor. make up some excuse as to why it took so many hours getting it apart and then tell you there a dozen new issues that need new parts before they put it back together.

Shame you don't live in ohio my guy don did mine for me. replaced my clutch flywheel T.O.B slave and master with labor for 800 thing runs like a dream. I do agree only use OEM T.O.B's when replacing the car seems to destroy any other T.O.B's

He also changed my brakes, oil & filter, gave me new terminal cables, and took off my wheel locks and replaced them with new ones (since I lost the key to mine like a *******) for free.

When you find a good mechanic you gotta stick with him :)

Either way wish you the best hope you have your shark back on the road soon

^^^^^^ thanks man, the car is back on the road and running great. ya the mechanic told me i needed a new clutch and he wanted $700 just to pull the motor and diagnose the problem. When i told him i had a clutchmasters stage 3 in there for only 6 months he didnt know what to say. When i went to pick it up he didnt seem to happy lol.
