Was wondering where do i locate my engine number thingy to find out what size it is? When i bought my car the dealer said it was 2.0 litre, however my car has a sx badge on the back and i know they came with a 1.8 litre.....they sold it saying it was a 98 but says built may 97 on the car plate under the hood. Much noticeable power difference between a 1.8 and a 2.0 anyway? iam guessing its a 1.8 and the dealer didn't know **** lol but iam not too fussed about this, just curious.

true, thats what the guy who sold the car to me said as well, was built may 97 but its a 98 model lol just got confused when i saw the sx badge

Here in the US, there is an emissions label under the hood. It states the model year & engine size. Not sure what other countries do though.
I believe your "VIN" is similar to the US version, thus you can look it up online to see engine size.

the dohc 16 valve is usually a 2.0 motor and as far as hp goes not too sure if thier is a significant amount of difference

Don't answer if you don't have the right info...
The 1.8 DOHC 16V was the first engine to show up in Tiburons. There are very minor differences in the two when looking however the inside of the engine is composed of different parts...shorter rods, crowned Pistons, hydraulic lifters, shorter valves, smaller diameter intake ports, counter weights on the crankshaft.
There is no usually in this matter.
I don't know where markings can be found on the engine itself, I had a head that was stamped 1.8/2.0 which came from a Beta I.
What does that plate on the firewall say?

Keep in mind guys, the question relates to an Aussie Tib, not a North American Tib. What they get can be a lot different from what we get.

Hmm, I can't tell for sure. It does look like the 2.0 I used to have, but as mentioned the 1.8 and 2.0 are the same block but with a slightly different piston size.
I'd also be interested to see what that plate on the firewall says, or if you can find the stampings on the block somewhere.

Based on this it says you have a 1.8, but this is not an official Hyundai VIP decoder

this seems to be a tough question for everyone to answer lol. everyones in debate between 2.0 and 1.8.
being a hyundai dealer i can verify that it is a 98. just as treftz40 said.
as for the 2.0 1.8 situation, google will probably be the best of our knowledge until we get a look inside.

The tiburon also came with the 1.6
But that is the 1.8
You are going to have to look for elantra parts to mod it.

Well according to Wikipedia the 1.8 was rated at 130 HP and 126 lb/ft while the 2.0 is 140 HP and 133 lb/ft
So no, you would likely not notice much difference at all.
