I have a set of TWM cable and base bushings and I love them. That is my two cents.

 

i want to get the TWMs but id love to save 30 dollars and get the derlin ones. Do you think the stiffness and firmness would be the same?

 

Brass bushings don't have enough give in them resulting in snapping the cable. Go with torque solutions. I did and they are a much needed improvement. I also took off the counter weight and it feels like a whole new car

What did this do for you?
Where did you find dis-assembly instructions. Can't figure out what comes apart by glance.

 

I've had the delrin ones (from KJB when they were around) for years and they have been great. No maintenance needed and they seem to be firm enough.

 

went ahead and bought the TS Delrin Bushings on ebay for $28 shipped. Hopefully i dont regret this

 

They fit perfect

 

Derlin is self lubricating, I have them myself and they work great

 

It takes off about 2 pounds off the shifter. It just feels a lot lighter going into gear and kind of notches in there. A lot better in my opinion. I just replaced with 5/16th washers and left it out. There's a DIY in interior or engine I believe. If I remember right you just remove the clip and it slides right off. Much better improvement IMO

 

Can you show a pic of what counter weight you took off?

 

Interesting I'll have to look for it. Probably also remove the little lever that's stuck there on the main shaft.

To the right of the bushing. It looks like a club. Remove that and try it. I used 5/16 washers and I think I put around 10 or so on there to fill the gap between the bushing and cotter pin.

Wouldn't you want to keep the counterweight on? I would imagine that it helps the shifter move with less exertion.

Added mass helps when in motion. Helps finish the shift. Same premise of having a weighted shift knob.

 

Yea you should probably put your counterweight back on man. It's there for a reason.

 

Removing the weight removed close to 2 pounds hanging on the shifter cable. Because I did this the shifting feels smoother and just floats into gear verses being thrown into gear. When you replace the bushings, take the weight off and put the cotter pin in without the washers. Jump in the car and just go through the gears. If you like it add some washers and if you don't then put the weight back on. I can't really think of an example since it's so early in the morning but I guess you could think of having a non abs car verses a car with abs. I'd rather have a car with no abs. I can now go through all 6 gears (1-5 and reverse) with my pinky finger. I'm going back to bed haha

 

Any positive difference you are feeling is from the bushings you installed. They are what is giving you the more direct shift. Did you take your own advice on trying them with and without the counterweight?

Comparing this to ABS is a little flawed- ABS is a system developed for safety for people who don't know how to drive; the counterweight is there for things to operate smoothly... using Science. It's simple physics.

But hey, in the end, if you think you feel a difference, then lay on, MacDuff.

 

I had it uninstalled when I did my clutch. I decided to leave it off with the new bushings. New bushings definitely made it better as well. Science or not, it made an improvement. I wouldn't remove anything crucial if it would damage anything. Majority of cars don't even have counter weights on standards

 

im having trouble removing my counterweight on my bigger bushing on my 5 speed. i got rid of the pin on the back, should it just come off then? or is it seized if it is not moving?
